I lived in Allegheny Ctr. as a student for 3 months. Please be aware, I was a non-traditional student. I had a life & one career already; definitely not the drunken teenager with a first taste of freedom! Only one of my complaints pertain to students...noise. Security guards were a joke! They hassled students, but provided ZERO protection to anyone other than their closed-ciruit television. While moving out, I was forced to call the police to handle a bum verbally & physuically abusing myself & friends! The bum insisted the grocery store shopping cart the security gurad had given us (as a building-owned aid) was HIS & we had to return it to him at once. I immediately called "security" which did nothing to help us other than stand to the side & observe the situation.

I am repulsed by those who think students are the problem of the complex. True, students are a surly lot, but look at what the are forced to live in. $500-$600 a month for a (acording to fire codes) over-crowded apartment riddled with cockroaches, ultra-thin walls, "security" guards who still allow rapes & beatings to occur, $50-$100 extra to park a car in a broken-down & un-secured lot, alcohol allowed by guards before a visitors, damaged or faulty plumbing, NON-EXISTENT maintenance, non-replaceable keys, helicopters hourly, and the GHETTO!

I was personally offended by the reviewer who wrote, "One block from the ghetto, but still safe & serene." I am a polite person, but my only reaction to this is: "HORSESHIT!!!" You couldn't be closer to the ghetto if you looked at your own mirror! This is one of the the least safe areas I know. Pittsburgh's Northside is one of the scarriest areas in the city to this day. I know, I still live in the city.

A few of my classmates & I started a "Safe Walk" program to get groups of students to walk home (only an 8 block walk from school) who attended classes releasing at 9pm. It failed bacause most of the Group Guides were too afraid to walk through Allegheny Center at night with less than 20 other people. "Safe and serene"'''' What kind of illegal substance was THAT person on...'!'
