Looking to move to Pittsburgh? Beware of Allegheny Center Associates. From literature and presentation, it at first appears to be a nice place to live. I lived at Allegheny Center, Building 10 and Building 3. The Allegheny Center is comprised of 4 Apartment Buildings and a nearly completely vacant shopping mall. The assistant building manager is nothing short of ignorant, and is in serious need of customer service skills. While you pay $75.00 a month for indoor "secure" parking, I have had to file a police report on two separate occasions because my car was broken into while parked, and had things stolen out of it on both occasions. Repairs are not made in a timely fashion, if at all on some occasions, and it seems that they forget that when they talk to you that you are not a child. BEWARE - Buildings 7 and 8 are used for dormitory housing for the Art Institute and Culindary Institute students, which when those building fill up, the house the overflow students into Buildings 3 and 10. In most cases, these students are disrespectful, loud, and not surprising, you are able to on most weekends guaranteed to step in spilled beer in the elevator, or have an overwhelming smell of reefer in the hallways. The building themselve are located across the street from public, low income houseing. The "security" is a joke, an in most cases, the security guards are more scarry than the outside population. While the doors require a security key, people coming in and out constantly let people they don't know through the doors, giving them access to the whole building including the garage. Also BEWARE - since the apartments are not fitted for washer and dryers, you are at the mercy of going to a laundromat or using the on-site facilities which are normally always occupied, or like the three incidences I can claim, have had my laundry actually stolen during the course of doing laundry. The building management has a hard time distinguishing who are the students and who are the professionals, so you will deal with major attitude from them and you will be spoken to and treated like a child. The front desk office staff is wonderful, and the female building manager is nice... and at first look, you think that it is not bad for the money, but you will be quickly dissatisfied. After 4 years, I am done and I am moving from what is affectionally refered to as "Alle-Ghetto Center" by people in Pittsburgh. Seriously, look at other places in the area, and you will find that you can get a much nicer place for not much more money. You will thank me for saving you from making the mistake of a lifetime.
