If you're an AIP student, and you're totally new to the pittsburgh area and the college environment this is a decent place to spend your first quarter. You'll make some new friends there and the RAs are friendly enough. It's really all quite nice for the first 3 months. Then reality sets in... You realize you are paying $600 per month for a studio that you are sharing with someone else! That's $1,800 per quarter more that is being tacked onto your student loans buddy! Sure you may not think that's a big deal now, you're sure you'll be fine paying it all off after you graduate. Heh... why not' If you graduate from AIP in the minimum 3 years and don't need to repeat any classes you can expect to pay a meer $21,600 more on your student loans. However its going to be a bit pricier if you like to have a vehicle. You have to pay $50 extra a month to pay for a parking spot, which adds up to another $1800 per year! So now you're going to be spending over $23,400 for your 3 year stay; which woun't include other stuff you would need if you have a vehicle, like gas and maintenance, and oh yeah the first time you're running behind on a payment you'll have to call a cab to take you to the tow-yard to get your car out of the impound... for a mere $180! But that's not all! Oh no, we've got more in store yet! Price isn't the reason this place is nick named "Alle-ghetto" at AIP. You are right beside the freaking ghetto! If you go to the main entrance and look across the street there are homeless degenates pushing shopping carts full of trash! Hey, most of them are friendly enough to come right up to you and ask you for money! Heck, some will come right up and take it from you! Muggings aren't exactly common... but to be fair they do happen. I hear a different horror story about once per quarter. If you stay at Allegheny center 7 or 8, make a lot of friends, you'll need them if you plan to walk home from AIP at night. Its good the school is consider enough to offer a trolley to Alleghetto at night, but you'll still want those friends to pad you between the parking lot and the door. You'll also want to make alot of friends since you'll be spending a significant portion of your time meeting many different diverse people. But the diversity really is a great thing! Especially with that heavy death metal band right above you that likes to play sporatically around 11pm and 7am. We should after all be tolerant of all cultures and lifestyles including these gentle giants... So if you're wondering what you should do if you want to avoid this distictly ghetto-fied money pit, I would advise making some good friends, and finding a "real" apartment somewhere ASAP. Heck, if you both had a steady part time job, or helpfull parents, you could both share a really nice apartment, without the ghetto, or overpriced parking, or noisy neighbors, or the multitude of vairous other problems I didn't mention, and that maybe allows pets too, all for under $600 per month! But you don't have to take my word for it, you can experience it all yourself and discover the unique micro-universe that is alleghetto! As for me I'm getting the **** out of here this quarter... and I'm not going to miss it... except the death metal reverie... ahh...those were good times...

This student lived in school sponsored housing - the school no longer provides this type of dormitory housing at Allegheny Center - all students that now live here are under private leases.
