Very Comfortable...Great View

The apartments at Allegheny Center are very reasonably priced and extremely comfortable. I have lived here for two and a half years while I attended Duquesne University, which is only a 20 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride away, and I have never had a problem with the apartment, the staff, or my neighbors. Overall, I would highly recommend Allegheny Center to anyone looking for a reasonably priced apartment convenient to Downtown Pittsburgh.
Pros:
The View - I live in building 3, and the view out of my bedroom is quite possibly the best view in the city, with the possible exception of Mount Washington. I have a perfect view of the Pittsburgh skyline, including PNC Park, which makes it possible to wach fireworks from your bedroom during Pirates games or special events. The view is even better from the rooftop deck.
Location - The apartments are located only a few blocks from PNC Park and Heinz Field, and it is only a 10 minute walk to downtown Pittsburgh. If you are a student attending the Art Institute or Duquesne, it is also walkable which will save big money without having to pay to park on campus. You would need to drive or take a bus to Pitt, but there are several bus stops within a few blocks.
Price - I currently pay $1025 for a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment, but that includes 2 parking spaces as well (1 indoor garage spot and 1 outside lot spot). The only utilities the tenant has to pay is electricity and then any cable/internet/phone. The rent is cheaper or at least competative wiht all of the apartments in the area, but the size of the apartment, the amount of closet space, and the proximity to downtown make it one of the most reasonably priced places to live near downtown.
Pets - Allegheny Center allows pets, with certain weight restrictions.
Cons:
Location - This was also listed under pros, because the apartment complex is located close to everything, but the actual neighborhood isnt the greatest. However, I have never had a problem. The apartment complex is fairly self-enclosed from the rest of the neighborhood and has plenty of trees and grassy areas, so the surrounding neighborhood isnt much of an issue. Plus, if you want to live near downtown you arent going to find a "great" neighborhood anywhere.
Construction - The apartment buildings are pretty old, and this causes some issues but on very rare occasion. The walls are fairly thin, but I have never had a noise problem with any of my neighbors. I did notice that noise seems to carry in the hallways though. This is also not an apartment complex where you are going to find super-modern kitchens or bathrooms or colorful walls. However, the apartments are very large and comfortable, so it all depends on what you are looking for.
Overall Impression - I would highly recommend Allegheny Center apartments to anyone looking for a place to live in Pittsburgh. I have not had a single complaint about my apartment in over 2 and a half years, and any minor maintenance issues were taken care of immediately. Reading through some of the other reviews on this website gives an unrealistic picture of the apartments. The neighborhood is fine, there are no major noise problems, and the staff and maintenance people are always helpful and friendly. I certainly enjoy living here, and I would recommend it to anyone else as well. mgFDbN4-dhkSMZ7zRmVH
