Good Enough

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

I studied at carnegie mellon and stayed here in my final year. It's a little far from cmu but i drove.

Pros:
1) Spacious for the amount you pay.
2) Apartment well maintained. I've stayed in 2 other places (one more expensive and one cheaper than amberson plaza) during my time in cmu and amberson plaza was maintained the best relatively.
3) Friendly and efficient admin and maintainence stuff. Jennifer the admin manager remembers which apartment I stayed in. Whenever I ask for maintainence or pay my rent, I don't even have to say which room i'm in. I asked for help with a clogged bath tub once in the morning. I got a note by the time i got back to school in the evening that the tub was unclogged.
4) Near Giant Eagle market district supermarket.
5) Convenient store located downstairs
6) University of Pittsburgh patrol cars help patrol the parking lots because the area is shared with a UPit housing.
7) New appliances (at least for my apt), including a huge microwave, dishwasher, relatively new wooden cabinet and fridge. My 2br kitchen was huge.
8) Open space parking included
9) gas heating included, if you close the windows in winter the room heats up
10) during my stay i didnt hear my neighbors while i was in my room.
11) Jennifer, the manager kept my packages for almost a month while i was away
12) day-care center downstairs, great if you're working couple

Cons
1) somewhat expensive, share it with a roommate.
2) my 2br, one room was HUGE and the other one was really small.
3) Gym is a joke. it's a huge room with just 3 machines. Really lacking
4) fire alarm rang once during our stay. took a few hours to reset that one. When i was evacuating from the building, i smelled smoke/burnt food coming from the 3rd floor. So that was probably someone going out without turning off their stove. Things like these do happen when you're staying with a building with 9 storeys worth of people.
5) My bathroom stuff was a little old relative to the rest of the place.
6) Lots of washers and dryers. Although all dryers were working, the 2 dryers with the round glass see-through panel works the best. The other dryers doesn't dry a full load well.
