Great apartment for a somewhat higher price

This review is for the morrowfield apartments, not apartments unlimited. I stayed here for 1.5 years. I have had a lot of interaction with the staff here, and other people who have stayed here, so I have a pretty decent overview of the whole place. When I first looked at it I felt the apartments were priced a little too high, however I think it was worth it. It's a great place for grad students to stay (I attended CMU while there) with a bus stop just outside the door and 2 bus lines that take you straight to CMU and Pitt. In the mornings you can catch a bus every 7-12 minutes while in the day every 15-20 minutes. For those who drive it's very close to the parkway (I-376) which can get you downtown Pittsburgh in less than 15 minutes depending on traffic. If you want to walk to school it's a little far, however (about 45 minutes to CMU).

Parking is ok, there is a heated garage which you have to pay for, however it is a little cramped and awkward to drive in and out of. I parked my car on the street. There is limited (10 spots) free parking behind the apartment as well as free parking on the streets nearby. As long as you get back before too late you won't have any problems at all finding a free spot. However if you are getting back after 10 p.m. expect to have problems finding a spot sometimes. Also in the winter it can be dangerous parking on the hill, because cars getting into accidents can damage yours, as well as tree branches falling from trees and onto cars. (I've seen it happen a couple of times).

There are a number of restaurants and shops a couple of blocks down the street, as well as a small theater, giant eagle grocery store, etc... The waterfront is also less than 10 minute drive away which has a large theater, tons of shops and stores as well.
The apartment itself is very spacious and overall decent. I had a 1-bedroom apartment which had 3 large closets as well as a linen closet and cabinet closet in the bathroom. The living room was also huge as well as a separate dining room. The kitchen had new appliances (however some of the studios have older ones, I believe). The staff is friendly and generally respond well. I had a refrigerator go out soon after I moved into the apartment and the landlord had it replaced in around 5 days and let me put my food in a spare fridge. She also reimbursed me for some of the food I lost which was great. I know of others who have had appliances go out, and generally it took a few days for it to be replaced. I never had any problems with bugs, leaks, etc...but I have known a few others who have. Heat was never a problem for me although I have heard others complain a little. It seems that rooms more in the center get more heat, so if that is a concern try not to get a place on the ends. Actually in the place where I stayed the room was too hot and I often had my windows wide open in the middle of winter, haha. The staff is generally helpful with anything you need, so that is a plus.

The rooms were not too noisy, but I did hear people walking, talking, cleaning, etc... every now and then. People also smoked in their rooms, and this leaked out into the hallways and sometimes into my room as well. The place was usually clean for the most part.

There is laundry on-site which works fine and it usually not too crowded.
Overall I recommend this apartment if it is within your price range. The location is great, the apartments are decent and huge, and staff is helpful. If it is at the very top of your price range and you are wondering if it is worth it, I would say yes it is. I would say the best part is the size of the 1-bedroom and location in relation to other areas of Pittsburgh. The biggest downside for me was the smoke in the halls and leaking into my room.
