It's OK if you smoke. If you don't and you get a neighbor below you who does, you might as well. The smoke and cooking odors come right up through the floors, ductwork and fireplace.
If I open my sliding glass door and the neighbor is on her balcony below smoking, her smoke comes right into my apartment. Bring a gas mask!

If you owned a house and had a nextdoor neighbor that smoked and you opened your door while he/she was smoking on thier patio, the wind (if blowing towards you) would send the odor into your house.......... As for cooking odor/smoke throught the duct work..... that's believable...

I lived at Bear Run for two years and know exactly what the original poster was talking about. I am a non-smoker, but would occasionally smell smoke in my bathroom. I notified management about this but they were unable to remedy the problem.
