To begin with, Bear Run has a preferred employer program that they do not advertise. In certain cases, if at least 5 people who work for the same company live there, a security deposit is not required and there is a discount on rent (a mere $15 a month). *This security deposit becomes important later.
The apartment we lived in had mold. It was the black kind that grows on walls and in the corners of closets. Needless to say, my allergies made me miserable. When we moved into the apartment, the place had been empty for awhile and there were live and dead bugs all over the place; it had not been cleaned recently. The washer and dryer had to be replaced within the first 2 weeks because they were old, poor quality and did not work properly. In addition, the dishwasher had to be fixed after the first use because the pump was broken and water flooded the small kitchen and dining room.
I chose this location because it was newer and was a gated community. In the entire year we lived there, the gates were not down a SINGLE time. So much for gated community. We paid $95 for a garage that had to be reprogrammed 5 times in 9 months (and we were locked out of it until it was reprogrammed). The maintenance staff was nice but even they were frustrated by the management's cheap ways and told me that the appliances were terrible.
The construction is very cheap. The neighbors above us (who were skinny) sounded like elephants who were bowling. We could even hear their phone ring.
So back to the employer discount program, turns out they told me there weren't any people from my work living there so we didn't qualify. WRONG, I found out a month or two later that there were already 5 people living there and I was the 6th. We paid the $500 security deposit and we shouldn't have had to. Now that we have moved out, they have only reimbursed us part of the security deposit because we didn't remove the satellite dish. THERE WAS DISH THERE WHEN WE MOVED IN AND WE PAID TO HAVE IT REMOVED WHEN OURS WAS INSTALLED!!! The management of Bear Run Village is the WORST. We have lived in rental apartments/townhomes in 3 states and have never had a bad experience until Bear Run.

I'd just like to point out that this post contains incorrect information - I am a tenant in the preferred employer program and a security deposit IS still required. However, the application fee is waived, the rent is decreased by $15/month, the early lease termination fee is reduced by half, and you receive three extra days "free" to move in.

I have lived there also, and EVERYTHING (with the exception of the preferred employer program which I know nothing about) is ABSOLUTELY TRUE!!! We relocated from here to Christopher Wren apartments (owned by Lincoln Properties) and it is equally a dump with the same issues. We were told to clean the mold with bleach over and over and buy Raid to take care of the insect infestation problem.

Lincoln Property Company has not managed Bear Run since March of 2002. Thats over 3 years ago. Second, Lincoln Property Company does not "own" Christopher Wren. They just manage the property. They have only been there since the end of June 2005. Get your facts straight sstolick first before you respond.

No doubt that "unanon88" is probably the person responsible for the crap that goes on around here. Trust me, I know EXACTLY what happened that makes most tennants unhappy. I have yet to post my move-out experience and overall dissatisfaction with this place; however, I would love for the Bear Run Advocate to dispute mine and everyone elses claims of getting screwed out of a lot of money when leaving. By the way, what the hell happened to the maid service and carpet cleaning that used to be a part of getting a new apartment ready, that IS IN FACT calculated as some sort of overhead cost into all our rent. Hm?
