High rent, poor construction.

The rent is extremely high for what you get. These buildings were poorly constructed, and that is putting it mildly. In the winter, we would get horrible drafts from the windows, front door, and sliding doors. If you were to touch one of the exterior walls from inside the apartment, it felt like ice. So, not only was rent high, but our gas bills were VERY high in the winter (and we kept the thermostat at a mere 65 degrees). The ceiling leaked in the living room, bedroom, and closet. We also had mold growing in the closet. And, this was within the building's first year - it had just been built. We also had a bad millipede problem. The management released an article in their community newsletter stating that the residents essentially had to put up with the millipedes since no pesticides worked on them. The management was poor. One of the tenants above us would let his dogs use his balcony as a bathroom, which created a horrible stench. He would also let his dogs use the neighbors' door mats for the same purpose. Management did nothing about this, even after repeated complaints by several different tenants. In the two years we lived there, rent increased over $200/month. Before we moved, we were asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding our stay there. One of the questions asked why we were leaving, and had some multiple choice answers to choose from. We checked the one which stated that "rent was too high". After we moved, we received a summarized report from them, and it stated that we moved out due to "financial difficulty". Not only was that a flat out lie, but it was a slap in the face, considering we paid our rent EARLY every month for the TWO years we lived there!
That being said, there were some positive aspects to the community - nice pool, great recreation hall that could be used for small gatherings, and the drive to the city via the interstate is not so bad. However, considering the high rent, poor construction, leaks, mold, bugs, and poor management -- it is certainly not worth it!! Obviously we were not the only ones who thought so, since the tenants in four of the other units in our building left for the same reasons as well.
