Overall good place to live for the price you pay

My husband and I have lived here for the past two years. He is a grad student so we were trying to find something small and affordable. We only pay $500/month for our one-bedroom apartment and that includes all heat and water. Our power bill is usually around $40-50/month. Very affordable!!

Parking is terrible. You have to pay $40/month to park in the lot. We chose to park on the street because it is free, but our car did get broken into once (stole the cd player). Also, they are VERY strict about enforcing their parking rules. Our car has gotten towed twice for being in the parking lot - one time were were only there for about 20 minutes!! The spots on the street are limited, so we usually have to walk 2-5 minutes to our apartments after we park on the street.

We haven't really gotten to know our neighbors very well. Many of the people in this complex don't speak English. Also, many of the tenants are low-income individuals. Some of the hallways smell terribly bad like ethnic food.

I haven't had any major maintenance problems. One time we had a leaky sink and it was fixed the same day. However, they just came into my apartment while I was at work and fixed it, without letting me know they were going to come in.
Twice in the two years we have lived here the hot water has gone out and we had to take cold showers. Once it happened on the weekend and didn't get get fixed until the following Tuesday. However, compared to some other apartments, once a year isn't a horrible track record for this to happen.

The air conditioners don't work exceptionally well, but they are fine. Our stove is very old and small and cooks funny. The space is small, but we also are getting what we paid for.

Overall, I would recommend moving here if you are looking for an inexpensive apartment. I am a runner and we are only 1 mile away from Frick Park with all kinds of beautiful walking/running trails, dog parks, etc. 3 miles away from CMU/Pitt (very accessible bus routes). 5-10 minute walk to Giant Eagle and only 2 miles away from the Waterfront (Target, Old Navy, Dicks, American Eagle, Express, etc). It only takes a few minutes to jump on the parkway from our apartment. We haven't had any problems with the management, but we also have always paid on time and are pretty good tenants.
