Difficult to deal with management

The maintenance team is quite good and responsive. The office staff team has been changed from those ignorant ladies to become more professional. The manager has also been replaced. But the main problem here remains. The sneaky and unapproachable management is what turns many renters away.

First, the manager is sitting in the back office and it is quite difficult to get to talk to her. This had been a more serious problem with the earlier manager. If a tenant has something he/she want to discuss with the manager, not the staff, he/she ought to be able to do so at least by appointment. But the office staff often turns them back. I could easily set a meeting with a company VP for no stated reason, but I can't see an apartment manager, it doesn't sound right.

Secondly, the rent is actually quite high compared to other similar apartments. The building is very old and poor quality, especially the sound insulation does't really exist, you could hear neighbors talking into the phone, you could hear TV broadcasting from next door, or you could hear the ceiling squeazing with the foot steps. It's no better than the college dorms. But I don't blame my neigherbors, and I don't blame the management for this - after all, what can they do about it' it's nobody's fault. What I'm saying is the rent is relatively high considering the quality of the apartment buildings.

Finally, watch out the lease term, be sure to ask them if you are not clear. The management could turn out to be difficult to deal with. I had a friend who has to move out because of a job relocation to another city, he was told that he has to pay the rest of the rent specified in the lease term. Legally, my friend can do nothing about it. But generally other apartments allow tenants to terminate the lease without penalty if there is valid reason such as job relocation or purchasing a house.

Overall I wouldn't recommend this apartment to my friends. There are plenty of other apartments nearby, same old builds, but cheaper and the management is generally better and more reasonably.
