I just thought I would post to let people see an opinion that is in the middle of the road. To me, things are not extreme as everyone has made them out to be.
I am leaving when my lease is over at the end of July, but for only ONE reason. The gas bills. Much has been said about them, and some of it is true, some of it I don't know or understand. It truly doesn't make sense to me but I pay it because I have to. In our apartment we have 2 gas bills because we have 2 seperate thermostats and heating units. Both bills continue to be extremely high. I have made and continue to make an effort to keep the thermostat extremely low and nothing seems to help. The bills have always been high but have recently gotten out of control. When I move I will not settle for an apartment that doesn't include heat because I cannot afford to deal with this again.
It is pretty much clear cut, the gas bills are too high so I am leaving. As for other complaints I don't have many. People complain about the staff. I am ok with them. When I have called about my gas bills they have taken a considerable amount of time to check the computer and were kind on the phone. They have consistently been nice but sometimes don't always follow through with what they say they will (esp. at move in). Never mean though.
As for maintenence, I love them. We have called them for a range of things from our garbage disposal being broken to a couple bugs and they have always came that day. They are efficient and get the job done. It has been so easy to get things fixed.
I can only speak for my building (100 building-highrise) and it is clean and quiet. Sure, there are occasional smells in the hallway but you are in them for one minute and we hear or smell nothing in our apartment. You can hear the elevator in the back bedroom but you get used to it. Otherwise its quiet. When the windows are open we hear the kids playing outside but that's it, nothing from the other apts.
I think the community is very safe, and the location is great. It is close to the city and many smaller communities and very close to the highway which is nice.
Sure, there can be annoying things like kids in the street but overall they are just annoyances. Life is full of them so people truly have to get over some of this stuff. For me there were many great things about living here. Like I said its close to the city so it was an easy commute and at night when I came home there was always a parking space which was lovely.
It is ashame about the gas bills. It is true that winter is cold (duh) and gas is high but if it is going to be this expensive then like I said I will refuse to live in an apartment where gas is not included in the rent. I feel that many people will leave for this reason.

I am sorry we are going to lose you as a resident of our community. I agree with your comments about our about our maintenance team, they are great. Thank you for the positive review of our community. I wish you the best of luck in your new home. As for the response regarding surprise charges and fine print. There is no such thing. A renewal invitation states two rates, one for a 12 month renewal and a higher rate for a month to month renewal. If a resident moves out before a lease expires they are responsible for paying a lease termination fee. You were sent a collection letter if you moved out and owed Carriage Park money. I don't consider it being a bully to ask you to pay for what you agreed to pay. I hope you too are happy in the future. |
