Overall, a great place to live

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I just moved to Pittsburgh from North Carolina during one of the coldest winters this area has seen in a long time. I chose Chestnut Ridge because they are one of the few apartments that allow large dogs (I have a 60-pound lab) and also didn't require a ridiculously huge pet deposit. Sure, the apartments are older than some others, but they've done a great job maintaining them. My appliances aren't exactly brand spanking new, but they work just fine. I love that I have my own separate laundry room. The bathroom and closet are both a great size. I only wish the closets had more shelves. The kitchen is relatively small but there's a lot of cupboard space.
My biggest problem with the apartmens so far is the grounds. You can hardly take a step without placing your foot in a fresh pile of dog poop. There's absolutely no excuse for this, especially since the complex provides bag stations throughout. It only takes an extra 5 seconds to pick up after your dog (which, by the way, I ALWAYS do). I wish others would! This is really my only major complaint.
Kim was really helpful to me throughout the whole move-in process and I've found the whole staff to be friendly and helpful. The people that live here are also friendly and noise has never been an issue for me. Occasionally I can hear my neighbors walking around upstairs but it's not a huge deal. I also love the huge windows! They let in plenty of light.
I just received my first gas bill and, especially considering how cold it was last month, I really don't think it's bad at all. I actually paid more in North Carolina. I hear they recently installed new siding and insulation, and it sure seems that way.
There is always more than enough parking, no matter what. A definite plus!
I have lived in other apartments before, but Chestnut Ridge is the best by a mile. Also, be sure to check out Settlers Cabin Park across the road. It's beautiful and so peaceful, aside from the occasional plane flying overhead.
