Don't Bother

This place looks absolutely GLAM in the pictures and the brochures. And once you come in to get a tour, it's still pretty posh. Then you stupidly sign a lease without asking all the questions, and BAM you begin a 12 month long regret process of trying to find a cheaper place with more accessibility.

Now, don't get me wrong, if you can afford 1,100 monthly (with utilities and pet fees) AND you have a car ... then this place is solid. Although somewhat overpriced compared to offering closer to town. The only plus that those wouldn't have would be that they allow for pets.

Now ... the bad things:

1) The staff is extremely rude. Ever since they transitioned from AEC to RIMCO it's been a total crapshoot. Maintenance enters your place without the 24 hr notice they promised. The head lady comes and shouts at you if you're being loud, but only on the weekdays ... god forbid one of them lifts a finger at the rest of the loud people on Saturdays and Sundays ... you know when professionals want to sleep.

2) There's a funky sewer smell coming from the pipes, not all units have this problem, but the ones that do can't seem to shake it off. Same thing with fruit flies ... something with the drains on the ground level apartments.

3) This one is a shout out to the imbecile and irresponsible dog owners that don't pick up after their dogs. I think it's AWESOME that this place allows for dogs, because not too many do. However, half of the dog owners here (ironically those with the big dogs) think it's ok to not pick up after their dogs. So yeah, it can get pretty dicey on the grass.

4) It's no where near a bus line. So if you want to go out to town with friends it's either a DD, Cab, or you drive. Not to mention, if your car breaks down, bam! you're stranded.

5) The washer is ok. But the DRYER will take FOREVER. We've tried everything from cleaning all the ducts, to drying half washer loads at a time. We've complained but heard nothing back.

...RIMCO as a management company has been a true dissapointment. I even asked for a copy of my lease two months ago. And I was told that anything not included in my lease would be adapted to the new RIMCO lease and nothing would be grandfathered (illegal). Not to mention, they're yet to provide me with a copy.

The reason the dryer takes so long to dry your clothes is because Chestnut Ridge's dryer vents do not meet the building code. Chestnut Ridge installed 3 inch dryer duct. The code requires 4 inch. Chestnut Ridge maybe grandfathered in this code violation, but regardless, they are violating the dryer manufacturer's requirements by running the dryers with this small duct. Basically, it's just a huge fire hazard. One thing you can do in the cooler months is unplug the dryer from the duct in the wall, and rubber-band or tape a pair of panty hoes to the end of the pipe. The clothes will dry in only 1 cycle (imagine that). It will also add moisture to the air, which is normally pretty dry in the winter. However, in the summer, connect the pipe back to the wall, because this is NOT energy efficient, and may cause mold problems. Good luck.
