NOT WORTH IT

I've been a tennant here at Crane Village for about 4 years. About a year ago, Dreyfuss (the mgmt company) installed new management staff and the quality of living and service has declined exponentially. This USED to be a pretty nice place to live. But ever since the new staff took over things have continuously gone downhill. My lease is up in a couple of months and after being here for 4 years I cannot wait to get out!

Last year I upgraded to a townhome. I was infomred that the prior tennants basically trashed the place and everything may not be fixed by the time I move in...but they already had a few weeks to fix the place up. On my move in date, there was still staff doing work in the townhome. Problems included a lackluster paint job, shattered windows, missing screens, closet doors not working, kitchen cabinet doors not installed properly, a very large area of stripped paint on the front door, and a broken screen door. There was about a 1 inch gap between our screen door and the ground, and we found roaches, YES, ROACHES, right outside of our building. I was told that these problems would be fixed promptly, but rather than days or even weeks, it took MONTHS for these relatively small problems to be fixed. I finally had to march down to the mgmt office and yell at the manager and threaten to file a complaint with the housing authority before anything got done.

The latest saga is our fire alarm has gone off at least 3 or 4 times in the last couple of weeks because a faulty dryer vent keeps setting it off. So the city Fire Department has to waste its time to come down here for false alarms. What if there were a real fire' Nobody would leave the building because everyone will assume it's a false alarm!

Like I said, I've been here for 4 years. The prior staff, even though not the friendliest people in the world, were at least quick to order repairs and resolve issues. These problems never occurred until the new staff took over. I've been a good tennant. I've paid the rent on time, kept up my place, and obeyed all the regulations. In return I get rent hikes and declining service.

This place is not worth the high rent. If you want to live in this area, there are plenty of complexes around that have a better reputation. Like I said, this USED to be a nice community. But now this complex is deteriorating rapidly and is being run by an ignorant, careless, and luckluster bunch of half-wits. It's quite a shame.

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 05/28/2007
I am very sorry to hear that you are moving out after being a tenant for 4 years. We actually turned your apartment over in 4 days when we usually turn apartments in 5 days. And yes, the apartment was in need of great repair from damage that the previous tenant left. I also want to tell the viewers of this site that you nearly assulted my employees and your actions were absolutely uncalled for. Your front door did not get painted for a few weeks because we wanted to change the doors entirely on all of the townhouses and replace them with new ones. That didn't actually get put into the budget until this year and we are very excited to be replacing them. If have seen roaches outside of your apartment call the office and be put on our regular preventative maintenance program we offer at no cost to our residents. You also have spoken about the cost of rent for your apartment and I will tell you that if you go anywhere in this area and look for an apartment community with all of the amenities Crane Village offers with the gas heat included in your rent we have priced our apartments right. You have chosen an upgraded apartment to live in which costs an extra $80 more a month and is worth every penny of it. I would hope that if you have any maintenance issues in your apartment that you will call to have them fixed as soon as possible.
