Terrible Experience

I will start by saying that you should explore every other possible option before deciding to live here. The apartments are incredibly over-priced for what you actually get. I say "actually" because the apartment you see when you tour, will not be the apartment you get. I was showed a wonderful looking apartment, with a view of the Pittsburgh skyline coming up above Mt Washington. I asked numerous times that the room would be the room I was getting, and the mangement assured me this was the case. The day of my move-in however, they gave me the keys to a room with stains on the floor, garbage in the utility room, a crack going through the door frame and lock from a break in, and a terrible sewer odor among other things. Oh, and the view changed from a great panoramic of the surrounding area, to a up close and personal view of the parking lot and the dumpster. Management will tell you that you do not have to sign the lease, which is not a choice at all when its the day of your move in that you discover you have been lied too. I have confirmed that this has been the case with numerous tenants who live around me. So, if for some reason you decide to live here, demand to see the actual apartment you will be getting.

As mentioned above, one of the first things I noticed when moving here was the large crack going through the door frame and lock from an attempted break in. I have it in writing that I wanted it fixed ASAP, and a year later the crack remains. The reason I mention this is due to the amount of crime and break ins that take place here. If you walk around the community, you can view numerous sliding doors that have been damaged due to attempted break-ins. Not only that, within a couple months of being here I noticed a flyer that was posted by management regarding a recent break in that turned violent. The flyer merely said, that the break-in was not a random act of violence. It did not say anything about increased security or that the situation was resolved. It just said it was not random, which should make every body living here so much safer!

The crime and management's lies hardly crack the surface of the type of place Crane Village is. Granted, the apartments are pretty spacious and if you can deal with break-ins, the sewer smell, the constant lengthy power outages, and the deception of management, this may be an adequate place to live!

I am sorry you had this experience. I have been here for 4 years now and my experience has been different. Except for the rent going up every year I am happy about pretty much everything else. Its a safe place. I would never let my kids and wife stay if I had any doubts. More families stay here than singles which I prefer. Management has been very prompt in responding to maintenance issues. They do need reminding at times but its taken care. I never hesitate to complain and have done so and it has never been ignored. I am just sharing my experience of last 4 years. You should take up your issue with management. You may have a legal case too.

I am very sorry to hear that you've had such a difficult experience here at Crane Village. The office staff has been completely replaced over the past 3 months, including myself being newer to Crane. I've been on the property since February 9th of this year and the manager since the beginning of May. Since I've been here, unfortunately I have heard from more than one resident about issues they've had in the past. While I can't change what you've experienced up until now, I do urge you to call me in the office or stop in so that we my discuss ANY issues you are having in your apartment home including the crack you mentioned. In some cases we are unable to show the specific unit available for rent due to a current resident still occupying the unit or due to work still be performed in the unit. We can, however, sometimes show a comparable floor plan and then the specific location of the unit available. With this in mind, there would be no question of the location, and all other areas of the building can be toured as well. I cannot speak for what the staff may have done in the past, but I know how we handle discussing and touring availability now. To address the issue of crime on the property, all I can really say is that no place is 100% crime free. I'm unaware of any re-occuring issues along these lines, but I know there had been occurances in the past. On at least 2 different occasions I've called the local police department about an issue I needed to discuss with them, but there was no mention of concerns they had about crime on the property. Anyone who wants further detail about our area should definitely call the local police. They are required to disclose any reports filed about our property. I have noticed some of the screen doors in poor condition as well. We are currently in the process of repairing these areas, and I am certain that some of the issues are due to resident damage and weather. Since February I have been through 2 power outages here on the property in the day time. One of them lasted about 3 hours and the other just a few minutes. In addition to that, I've been informed by one of our staff members that lives on-site of a couple outages in the evening that seemed to be in conjunction with the weather. These power outages are out of Crane Village's control. Again, I am truly sorry that you've had such a negative experience here and ask that you give the "new" Crane an opportunity to make things right. Thankyou, Lisa Stickley Property Manager Crane Village Apartments (412) 344-3020

I think the "random break-in" you are referring to was when a ex boyfriend used a set of keys "to break in" and tied up his ex girl friend. She filed a false police report! Crane is Safe, and no offense but when you have a private residence, do you have two locked secure doors>? Here you do! A break in can happen anywhere... I don't know why anyone would target Crane Village when there are residents everywhere to witness and there are 500k plus homes right up the street? If your place gets broken into u of the time it is someone that you know. If you have any problems, you should contact the office, they will help you.
