Too expensive and management only makes a big show

I'm sorry to say that my experience with Essex was poor. The final straw was when they upped the rent to $930 and added $50 for gas per month. I had my bike stolen and it was supposed to be locked to a bike stand in the parking lot a few feet from the guard's stall. The door man is a sweet guy, but sometimes he's sitting out and doesnt open the door for the tenents. I dont know if he is a real door man or just a man standing at the door. And he has a temper especially to new guests, but is really nice when you get to know him and very helpful. I'd say the best thing about Essex is the staff and doorman. THe management has 6 or 7 other properties that they take care of and can be heartless, but better than some of the other management people I've experienced.
Overall, I'd recommend it if you have $980 for a 850sqft one bedroom with a great view of the some of shadyside if you stay above the 11th floor or East Liberty if you stay above the 6th floor.
Distance from car to apartment was a little bit too much for me.
I liked the proximity to the Giant Eagle and hospitals and restaurants in shady side. It is pretty clean and having the laundry on the same floor and a garbage shute is a great amenity.
