of you who enjoy being awoken at all hours (i.e. 3:15, 4:15, 5:15) on any given week night because the tenants beneath you are having one of their tri-weekly parties. I have even been woken up at 6:15 in the morning by drunken 20 somethings screaming obscenities at each other and slamming doors at all hours of the night. Oh and for you sports fans out there you can observe other tenants fist fighting in the parking lot and slamming each other against the cars, also they like to race their cars up and down the lot it's just like NASCAR but for free and the only rednecks are the ones driving the cars, but be careful they've had a few drinks and they don't brake for pedestrians. Also you can get high for free because the marijuana cloud from the apartment below is so dense that you can see the beam of a flashlight through it, and me I could not stop laughing and my eyes were squinted for hours, fun for the whole family. I don t know about you but paying $900.00 a month to live in a frat house is a sweet deal, just think of all the money you would save in drugs alone.
Affinity for confrontation is a must because the rental office kindly suggests taking any concerns you may have (for example about being drug tested at work and loosing your job because the tenants beneath you smoke entirely too much weed) up with the problem tenants directly instead of bothering them with it.
The dare ----- in you will enjoy the balconies; our balcony is a death trap, it literally looks dilapidated (and our neighbors looks worse than ours). The boards flex under your feet and the maintenance man himself told me that it probably is not a good idea to lean on the rail. It would recommend that your affairs are in order before going out to enjoy the view.
The guard house is a joke, they want you to call and let them know if you are expecting guests so they'll be allowed on the property , but the phone does not even work in the guard house. The guard himself told me that management refuses to fix it. Also the guards themselves are useless; we have one guard who does not even look up when you drive by he just keeps on reading his news paper, that s when he's awake of course. The others just wave anyone through.
If you like candles and romantic settings this is the place for you because every time there is a storm or other weather the power will go out for a couple days, this is especially fun (and cold) during the winter when we went three days without power. The Duquesne Light is not really fast about fixing it because usually we are the only people affected.
They really do not remove the snow. I think the big plow truck that they have is just for show. They keep it park right were perspective renters can see it, but I swear the whole thing is made out of plywood.
You have to pay for everything pool, tanning bed, gym etc. The on site convenience store sells everything at about twice the retail price, oh and everyone just throws their trash in front of the compactor so it can bake in the sun until the maintenance guys get around to cleaning it up that certainly adds to the charm.
About the only thing I do like about this place is the apartment itself. The apartment layout is nice and the location relative to downtown and everything else in Pittsburgh is convenient. I also enjoy being set back off of the road definitely does not feel like we are mins from downtown.
I personally have not had any trouble with maintenance. The few things that have gone wrong have been promptly addressed.
Also to be fair we have not seen any mold or anything like that and although we have seen a few bugs, they are normal household bugs. No termites or cockroaches, but I have heard people complain about them. I guess it s all about who lives above or below you.
If you like all of those things then this is definitely the place for you...8-)

Maybe you should've checked out this site prior to moving in, huh? You could always rent a house for the same amount of money. I don't sympathize with anyone that lives in an apartment complex. It's the person's own fault for moving into one knowing that they're not the quietest of places and are notorious for having young adults live in them. Better yet, buy a house! But then you wouldn't have anyone else to blame, so that's probably not an option.

To the second response: Why are you defending Hyland Hills? Do you live there? Unless you live there, then you have no right to say anything. If a place advertises a well taken care of, quiet setting, than they to uphold their end of the bargin. If they don't, they are liable for false advertising which IS ILLEGAL!! Not everyone is always ready to buy a house, nor does everyone want the hassel of taking care of a house. If this were to go on next door to your house, would you permit it? What if the police said that they could not do anything? What would you do then? Go and beat them up? Being loud is one things, but smoking pot, almost hitting people, driving drunk, walking in public inebriated, and jumping on, throwing friends into, and sitting on someone else's care IS ILLEGAL! That would not be permitted on a street with houses. Why should it be permitted there? What if it were your car, or you that almost got hit, or you that lost your job due to a test showing that you have the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in your blood stream when you don't smoke or posses an illicit substance and the police said, oh well sucks for you. Would you be upset then? Why don't you grow up and not say things if you don't in a place that has those problems.

I lived at highland hills for 1 year and couldn't wait to get out!! they claim to win the apartment excellece award every year. yeah, right. what a joke. the 2 ladies (thats being polite) who work in the office are miserable evil trolls. they hate their job, and aren't afraid to let you know it. they will be so nice until you sign your lease. its a new game from there. start counting the days until your lease is up. the building i lived in was full of handicapped people. they all have caregivers comming and going-banging on doors and yelling to wake them up to take their pills/meds,etc. if i had to hear 1 more time that my neighbor had to wake up for his shots i was gonna hurl myself off my deck onto 279. i honestly have nothing against them. if anything i feel bad. the location is nice, but thats about it. you have to pay to use the pool. when i was at the pool one day (reading because the filter wasnt on & you couldn't see the bootom of the pool) someone from parks & rec. came and made everyone leave because it was so dirty. if you don't believe me i am sure its on record somewhere with the state. i moved out & i am over it. just wanted to put out a fair warning: THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL DUMP!!! it is owned by a company in cleveland, and all they want is their rent money. thats it. good luck at hyland hills. your gonna need it. the people across the street at crane village seem alot happier. oh, i almost forgot- if you work a typical 9 to 5 job, good luck getting out of the complex traffic backs so far up the road that it takes 30 min. to get down to banksville rd. (usually taking 1 min.

Thats funny, I never checked back and had no idea that there were replies. I did buy a house and I no-longer live in highland Hills, the funny thing is that we actualy pay less a month, sometimes while people save money for a down payment on a house people have to live somewhere that is less than ideal, and while yes when you live in an apartment you should expect disturbances simply because of your proximity to other people, that being said, I think what we were exposed to can be considered unreasonable behavior under any circumstances. I will say that life did get better after a while, but it took alot of letters, sleepless nights (because of the noise) and uncomfortable encounters with the neighbors in question in the hallway and parking lot to get there.
We're out now and we're loving it.
