Just OK

The good:
Affordable
Great location (5914 Walnut)
Carpets were clean when we moved in.

The bad:
Place was filthy when we moved in - it hadn't been properly cleaned.
The building is very old. If you are environmentally minded, maybe this place is not for you because it must be the most inefficient building around.
One closet is so nasty that we don't use it.
Parking cost additional ($35) and is a joke. The car barely fits on the spot, so it is a pain to park or get back into the car.
Management is rude. Every time I call I get a "what do you want know" attitude.
Gas leak on the outside of the building seems very dangerous. I called about it and my call was ignored.
Heat went out for the last 2 weeks of December. So we had no heating! After a week, they brought us electric heaters - but they didn't pay the extra heating cost (which as over $100)
When I moved in, the washer and drying were constantly out of service. They were replaced and now they are fine.
Once I called because we blew a fuse, and the person we dealt with was very rude. When I asked him "how are you'" he answered "I was fine until now"
The heat is usually lower than what I would want it to be at.
Management is not shy about going into your apartment when you are not around. (i.e. to fix something, etc.)
Management takes forever to respond to request. You have to be reminding them.

Conclusion
The building at 5914 Walnut is OK to live in. If you are a college student you probably will not mind the little things. But overall, I do not recommend it. There are much better deals in Shadyside. I came from the Kenmawr - which is a much nicer place with better staff, but a lot more expensive. And since this review is for Kamin Realty as a whole, I would definitely not recommend them.
