I lived on the back side of the building and every morning without fail around 6am the half-way house residents would start their militant drills, screaming and chanting at the top of their lungs. This also happened every evening around 7pm. I do not know if they still do this, but the house is right across the back parking lot where the dumpster is located on Howe Street. Additionally, there were loud screaming children stampeding in the hallways, loud neighbors and/or thin walls, and absolutely disgusting trash rooms where no one seemed capable of grasping the concept that garbage is meant to go down the shoot rather than to fester in the trash room itself. Rumor has it that the building used to be the projects and now they market the Kenmawr as "luxury." Oh and do not be surprised when you have to pay an extra fee when you move out for them to clean your apartment. My aparment was impeccable when i left, but they charged me around $100 to clean the carpets, which were exactly as I had left them. This carpet fee applies to everyone, regardless of how soiled it is. My friend also ended up being blamed and charged to repair imperfections that were present when she moved in. Do not forget, tons of kids, foreigners that do not speak English if this is a problem for you, but worst of all a front lawn riddled with dog crap. Also, the "fitness center" consists of one treadmill and a universal tucked away in a sardine can sized room. When considering the prices and prospects of apartments in Pittsburgh, I will tell you to rent part of a house anytime over the high rise choices.

I would like to say that I have lived in pittsburgh all my life and choose tomove into the kenmawr last year. First of all, as being a pittsburgher I know for a "FACT" this property was never "in the slums" It has always been a luxury property. As a matter of fact they are in the process of remodeling. Including a huge state-of-the-art fitness facility, new marble floor in the lobby and much more. And there is not a halfway house next door.

I just took a look at the building -- the fitness center was very well equipped (several treadmills and a number of modern weight machines, along with a dumbbell rack.) Not sure if "foreigners who do not speak English" are actually a problem. Suspect that either the building has changed in the years since this review was posted, or that poster has an axe to grind.
