I have read these reviews and I agree with most of them. I just want any one that is looking at these apartments to know that as of today, May 9, 2007 these apartments are out of code. The balconies are falling off the at least 2 of the buildings, you can walk around to the back and see them. Buildings 314 and 316. (Its falling on the third floor). Also, in my apartment there is a hole in my room where you can see straight outside and to the apartment below me, this is due to the fact that they have not fixed the balconies yet. This has developed over time since I have been here but I could not see it because my bed was over it. The stove in our apartment is out of code, the gas man told us it was and I looked into it and agree with him that it is.
These apartments are so far out of code that no one should be living in them.
Also, Melissa and management have broken our lease. We saw it so called a meeting with her and she made up an excuse sayign that she didn't. It was about rent going up. She had to give us 2 months notice in writing before increasing the rent, she gave us 3 days. As students we told our parents and the first thing they did was call and point it out. She quickly reduced the rent back down after that.
Because this is oakland and a lot of students live in this area, they WILL try to take your money.
Please don't waste your time here.
Another thing, parking on the street is safer and cheaper than parking behind the buildings. Its 70 dollars a month to park behind the building where there are no cameras and lighting isn't good. Cars have also been broken into back there. Its 20 dollars I believe to park on the street.

You are absolutely right. In our apartment, there is water damage that spans the entire wall towards the outside of the building; upon putting nails in the wall, the nails actually rusted. And I wouldn't be surprised if we had a mold problem, because my roommate got very ill from a mold infection in her lungs. I haven't had lung problems, but her heritage supposedly makes her more prone to it. Of course, maintenance just shrugged when I showed them the damaged wall and I never heard from them again. And then there's the back door that was left off of its hinges for a whole month when we first moved in, and maintenance took its good, old time fixing that. Someone should just flatten out the entire block of apartment buildings and start all over again. Anywhere else, tearing the buildings down would be completely required because they are not inhabitable by anything except roaches and rats. It's ridiculous.

Hello, I am the one who wrote this review and I just wanted to follow up so everyone knows what happened to me and my roommate.
I called the city help number (its free) and they had an inspector come out and look at the apartment. The inspector filled out the report and handed it into the office and from the time he turned it in to the time i moved out NO ONE from Mckee Place Apartments set foot in my apartment once.
The city of Pittsburgh has a hot line number you can call for people who are having problems with Landlords and who believe their building is out of code. It is completely free and the Inspector can not get you in trouble for stupid things like having a pet when its not in your lease or drinking. (That is not why he is there, he doesn't care about that) I strongly encourage everyone who reads this and lives in Mckee Place Apartments to call the hot line and get an inspector out there to look at the buildings. 412.255.8886 If no one answers leave a message and just tell them you don't feel safe living there and that you would like someone to come out and look at the building and your apartment. There are here to help you!!
If many people call and have an Inspector come out hopefully Mckee Place Apartments will get the picture and do something about it.
Also, follow up with the Inspector, the Management only has a couple of weeks I believe to fix things and if they don't, they get fined and possibly have to go to court for not fixing the problems. The city already knows about Mckee Place Apartments and if enough people come out and stand up the city will start to take action a little bit faster!
That is all!! Trust me, it is worth it!
PS: Get everything Mckee Place says to you in writing, signed and dated by the Manager! Also if you don't get your despoit back (or how much every they said they would give you back) in 30 days, its doubled. It is in an act that Pittsburgh passed. Look it up!
