We were desperate trying to find a place in Pittsburgh when we found a duplex being rented out by Mozart.
We got a time to come and sign the lease and it was a nightmare sitting there for 2 hours being asked 10.000 questions about our lives, having to read dozens of pages of contracts and then being rudely treated when we said we wanted to go home and finish reading the contract with our lawyer: "No, you cannot do that - or else tomorrow this apartment is probably going to go to someone else"
Well, we went home anyways - not caring whether the apartment would be rented out or not - and showed the contract to our lawyer. He was baffled with all those clauses!!! Among other things it says:
**They may come in and out from the apartment whenever they want WITHOUT calling in advance and if you deny entrance you will be fined.
**If you die, your relatives are resnposible for ALL the rent or expenses you leave behind.
**You are bound with them for 15 months and if you dare leaving before there will be at least 500 dollars fine you will owe what costs them to advertise the apartment, their fees, etc. "It is ipossible to know exactly how much" but it is very costly. WHAT'' They can just come and charge ANYTHING they want''
**Water temperature "fluctuates" and they are not responsible for that. WHAT''
**If there are pests in the apartment it is most probably something that came from your moving truck
**They won't accept flower deliveries or parcel deliveries of anything that is not square or rectangular ('''')
**Kids are not allowed ANYWHERE without their parents
