Unreasonable and unfair lease

Don't rent from Mozart Management. They use the same lease for every unit, no matter which of their buildings you live in. The lease is unfair and there are illegal clauses in it. They want you to give up your right to advance notice before they enter the apartment FOR ANY REASON. They will not negotiate this with you even though it is illegal. When they come to repair something, sometimes they forget to lock the door properly when they leave. If it is any kind of job that leaves dust, dirt or paintchips behind, they don't clean up after themselves. If you are considering one of their apartments, make sure a lawyer looks at the lease before you sign. They refuse to negotiate with you on ANYTHING. Everyone at the office, no matter who you talk to, will tell you that they don't have the authority to change the rental price, or change anything at all in the lease. Serriously, none of their buildings are SO nice that you won't be able to find a better situation somewhere else in Pittsburgh. Their policy is to strongarm you into thinking that you have no choice in anything, but you do have a choice. They could care less about keeping good tenants. If you try to negotiate with them for a fair lease, they will just suggest that you leave.

LOL...I rent from Mozart and that is a complete lie. It doesn't say they will execute your pet. It says that if you don't take the pet elsewhere within 24 hours that they can remove it for you. Bottom line is...don't have a pet in apartment if you know you aren't allowed. Additionally, you don't waive your right to sue them. You waive your right to a jury trial which means that if you don't pay your rent you will appear before a magistrate only not a jury with a judge. This is only a problem if you plan to be evicted. And there are some great landlords in Pgh...but there are some crappy apartments out there too. You must weigh the opportunity costs and make informed decisions.

See #29 from this 2005 lease available online. Glad to hear that they've taken out the extermination clause from current leases.
