Highmont Review - Top Notch for Da Burgh

Here's the deal. The Highmont, from my own account, and the account of others, is a good place to live. Chances are if you read any review about the Highmont, it is good. If you want to email me to confirm that I am a real person who does not work for the company, be my guest. diamocel@yahoo.com I do believe that some of the other buildings probably have their issues. I do believe that others have had issues with the management. I would guess that the Highmont lives up to its name of being Higher class. It is pretty much grad students. I don't really know any of my neighbors as everyone works or studies or both. Getting out of the parking lot at the Highmont can be an adventure, especially when it snows. There is a decent incline onto 5th Ave. The Maintenance staff is very good and very responsive. They try to get the lot plowed early, but if you leave for work at 630AM, they may not plow it by then. I think they try to have it completed by 7AM. There are 2 bus stops within walking distance - no more than 100 yards in either direction - if you don't drive. I was highly reluctant to sign the lease. I had read all the reviews. I was concerned. I did sign it and felt like I had signed my soul over to the devil. I actually had a lawyer look at the lease. The lawyer explained that the company is really trying to cover itself. Here's a possible explanation that I discovered in Business School. A friend of mine also rents apartments on his own, however to undergrads. A group of his tenants had a huge fish tank which they destroyed in a party on their final night's stay. His damages were tremendous- water, glass, beer, dead fish, etc. They all skipped out like nothing happened. It took him over 2 years to get the money back from them by putting a lean on each tenants' credit. They each didn't realize this until they tried to buy homes. Mozart is a big company. They're not going to wait two years to recoup their losses. But I digress. The room I have is huge, 800 sq ft. The view is ok. It is really easy to move in and out. It is not a problem to have friends over and have them park on the lot. There are spaces that are not assigned. If you move in, please tell your guests not to park in someone's spot. It's just ignorant. If you can't discern which spots are unassigned, they are the spots at the immediate top of the driveway when you pull in. You can tell that this somewhat of issue for me. Anyway, no parties are allowed. There is one laundry room which is usually available -- 2 washers, 2 dryers. All utilities are included. I leave half of my appliances on year round -- Thanks Mozart ;) I probably got my money's worth on that deal. What else can I say' Excellent water pressure. I do live on the ground floor. No one attempted to break in that I know of. When I leave the apartment, I leave the radio and a light on, but close the blinds. This creates the appearance that someone might be home. So why am I leaving' I hate riding the bus. Parking downtown is expensive and gas is at a record high. Thus I am moving downtown to walk to work. If someone at Mozart reads this review, they can probably figure out who I am. I really don't care. I'm giving an overall score of a 4.0 From talking to my classmates and hearing about their living experiences elsewhere in da burgh, I'd say that I have had it pretty good at my place. There's no way I'd ever give any place a 5.0. I've lived in KC, Nashville, South Bend, and elsewhere. There's no pool, no clubhouse, and no balcony. You won't find those amenities anywhere else in Pittsburgh unless you pay out the cash. For Pittsburgh however, the Highmont is pretty good. To sum up: If you're an undergrad, you're pretty much screwed where ever you go. Management companies don't trust you. You and your friends destroy Management's property. You hate management. Management hates you. Hey, I was an undergrad once too, so I understand. However, I wasn't an undergrad in Pittsburgh, so I can't tell you where to go here. If you're a grad student or young professional, give the Highmont a shot. You won't be sorry. Would I recommend Mozart Management' It depends on the building. In this case, yes. Mozart has a winner in the Highmont. Some of their other buildings may not be good. Do your research. Talk to the tenants. Come back at 11PM and see if your apartment is in the middle of a war zone. Make sure that you don't have any section 8 neighbors in your building. One final parting word of wisdom - Vote Republican. Diamocel likes lower taxes.
