Not a bad apartment, lots of room. However, it's necessary to point out some problems that might not be obvious to someone taking a 5 min tour...
Pros:
-Overall apartment size is big, decent room sizes.
-Closets are plentiful.
-Lots of cabinets/counter space in kitchen.
-Good location (walking distance to Giant Eagle and Walnut Street).
-Safe/quiet neighborhood.
-Unique look. All walls are either cement foundation or wood.
-Great for outdoors-men who want to imagine life in an underground cabin-hideaway.

Cons:
-This apartment was in the basement, so obviously it is not the sunniest apartment on the market. People walking on the sidewalk can see down through all windows, so curtains/blinds are a necessity (but block some of the precious sunlight).
-The bathroom seems to attract lots of spiders.
-The windows are very old, wooden, single-paned windows. During winter months you can feel the cold air coming through the windows. Plan on covering the windows with plastic if you want heat to stay inside.
-There is absolutely NO insulation in the walls of this apartment! I could hear my roommate roll over in his bed at night, or hear what was being watched on TV as I tried to fall asleep... the walls provided little noise reduction. I could also hear people walking around in the apartment above us, but that didn't bother me as much.

Also, water came into the hallway of the apartment and up through the drains when Pittsburgh experienced torrential rains during the summer. This was only once though, and the streets of Pittsburgh were flooded badly. I notified the management and within a day they came in and vacuumed up the water.

For living in Shadyside, it was pretty reasonable as far as the price goes ($80 discount when you pay on time, so $895 e). I could live there again, but I have chosen not to renew the lease.
