It's a good place to live

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2009
We've lived here for about two years, and we are happy with our choice to live in NPC. We were new to Pittsburgh when we first started renting and we were nervous about finding a good place in a safe area.
NPC is technically in Ross Township but it borders with West View and is convenient to the West View shopping center and some fast food restaurants and other things. Getting downtown is easy and the bus Park n Ride is about a mile away. Other bus stops are closer. Really convenient!
It's also easy enough to get to the shopping on McKnight Road.
The area is extremely safe and we've had no trouble with crime or people disturbing the peace.
One annoying thing about the area (and this isn't the apartment's fault) is the really loud fire alarm that you can hear if your windows are open. It sounds like a huge boat coming into harbor.
The maintenance and office staff are outstanding. We've had appliances break and they're here the same day or 1st thing in the morning the next day to fix or replace it. They really are the example of how apartment management should be.
I believe the square footage listed for the unit is the exterior wall measurement, not the liveable square footage. The size is ok for couples or small families, but families with older children will quickly outgrow it.
Some units have washer/dryers in their units. In our building, we have two coin-op washers and two coin-op dryers in the basement. They are $1.25 per use per machine. Also in the basement is a storage locker that's maybe 4x4x10h' I don't know for sure.
Because of the way the buildings are designed, I never hear my neighbors. I only hear them if I'm really close to my front door and there's someone in the hall coming up the stairs.
My unit is all-electric so that means during the winter, you get a discount on your electric kwh rate. For a 2 br, my highest bill last winter was $150, but it was usually around $100. When it's nice enough outside for no heat or AC, my bill is usually around $50 or $60.
Rent has gone up $20 each year and it depends on if you have a W/D in your apartment and which floor you live on.
