Prospect Park is NOT a great place to live.

Prospect Park is not a good place to live. If you need to get by, however, it would probably do. That is if you can stand to live in bug infested apartments. Many buildings do not have security locks on the main doors and this allows anyone to walk into your building. The hallways in our building are often covered with hershey's syrup and mustard that was placed there by over-zealous halloweeners. The hallways are never swept and ignorant people let their trash sit outside their door instead of taking it to the trash bin. The bins in the basement are easily broken into, my own was looted recently- it had a master lock on it and the rental office assured me that they were safe. However, when I called to let them know that the bin was broken into, they didn't do a thing to fix security for the building. They normally don't do a thing when you call them anyway, especially when it comes to maintenance problems. And don't ever try to ask for anything new from them, because they won't budge. My sister wanted a new fridge because it was leaking. They refused. It also doesn't help that the stove is placed directly beside the refrigerator because when you heat your oven to 400, it messes up the gauge in the fridge and causes a lot of food to melt and/or become spoiled.
Many of the neighbors here are rude, maybe it's a requirement that the rental office has. All of my neighbors above and below me play their music so loud that I can barely have quiet time for myself. I'm a college student, and I can safely say that this is not a place for students who want to get away from dorm life to a quiet place.
But what can I say' For 360$ for a one bedroom, I suppose it works. Don't get stuck here, especially if you have kids. Apparently kids aren't allowed on the grass or allowed to ride on the road, which is completely ridiculous. So basically, kids are expected to stay in the apartment all day because there are no community park-type areas (that aren't a long hike up and down hills). There is not much parking and sometimes I am apprehensive about parking my car somewhere not in front of my building because of someone breaking into it. The areas are also not that well lit. In addition, there are a lot of "weirdos" in the neighborhood. One man in my building always stares at me when I take my trash out. I know this because he opens the blinds up the whole way and stands there. I do not feel very safe walking alone, and I do not do so anymore.

If you can, try to find somewhere else.
I am.
