I've changed my mind about Prospect Park

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I wrote a review a few years ago on this website (titled "Prospect Park is NOT a great place to live"). I've changed my mind, to some extent, about Prospect Park.
I recently moved back into Prospect after living in an over-priced ($650) tiny apartment for almost three years. This time I moved into a different building than the one I used to live in. The two buildings are incredibly different. I pay $410 for my one bedroom apartment, which is actually quite large for a one bedroom. I was really surprised when I looked at the apartment because it was very clean and the windows were brand new. One rule of thumb: look for an apartment in a building that has NEWER windows, not the old dark brown metallic vertical ones--that is a sign of a building that is not taken care of as much.
I now really have no problem with anything here: no bug infestations (and if I do, the maintenance will respond quickly), the appliances are new/in good shape, good water pressure, nice tiled bathroom, ceiling fans, five closets... I once had a problem with my sink trap (the S-shaped pipe under your sink) and I called the office and they sent someone down that morning to replace it!
The only problem I have is that my heat doesn't always seem to be on full-force in the winter. But I compensate by wearing sweatshirts, slippers, etc. I also do have a problem occasionally with some bugs. I have seen maybe a half dozen spiders and wasps during my year's stay. However, the ones I hate the most are the house centipedes. They sneak in through cracks in the seal of your windows. I've probably had a dozen or so over the past year which is a dozen too many for me. However, I have never ever had a problem with cockroaches or termites (in this building).
The parking is good, though it's not too well-lit, but I've never had a problem.
I can hear my neighbors sometimes...but only because they like to yell loudly! I normally don't hear TV or music or noise though (btw, the walls are like concrete and are nearly impossible to hang pictures on).
The grounds are okay, there are a lot of trees and some grass space. Unfortunately, I still feel that there are not enough play spaces for children. The ones that they do use are too close to the road and the grass can get pretty worn-down looking.
My building that I currently live in does have a lock on the front and back doors (my old one did not). I can count on my hand the number of times someone has knocked on my door for unsolicited purposes or for maintenance. This is such an incredible relief to me because I recently had a landlord who would knock on my door daily to fix something that didn't need to be fixed in my apartment or he would enter my apartment while I was out to fix something. That kind of stuff doesn't happen here (unless it's an emergency). If maintenance needs in your apartment/building, they send around a flyer stating why and when they will be servicing the building.
There are not a lot of lights in the area, just a lamp post in front of each building. But the area seems to be pretty safe and I'm definitely not afraid to walk around the circle at night. Practically everyday, I see a police cruiser somewhere in the neighborhood, but just patrolling around. It is a rare occasion when they are citing someone for misconduct.
Overall, I do enjoy living here at Prospect, my new building seriously makes a world of difference. It's inexpensive, safe, and clean. Plus the people who work at the rental office are very nice and they are willing to work with you with things like splitting up rent payments, postponing a rent payment, subletting your apartment, etc.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions and I can give you more information and possibly even pictures of the apartments and the grounds.
