Moving Here Was The Worst Thing That Has Ever Happened

For such a beautiful neighborhood area, you would think that the inside and staff here would be as well. That was completely the opposite. When I first moved in, the refrigerator was broken and wasn't replaced for 2 months. The Manager, and I use that term loosely, was and has never been co-operative. She knew that my fiance is missing her left foot, and yet they still made us take an apartment that she has never been able to leave. We have had many problems with bugs in the months of living here. The toilet has never worked properly. I have had to plunge it after every bowel movement. There have been numerous false fire alarms pulled by kids not even living in the building. This building is supposed to have a security door, which is left so wide open, that anyone can just walk in. I have had mail broken into. Now that I had a slight financial problem, I was always honest about with the so-called manager, she decided to take me to court without even trying to follow the judge's decision to work it out. She wants all or nothing and I don't make that much to give at once. The manager has threatened my fiance and I with bodily harm to be taken out of here. She is not professional in the least. It is amazing that I offered her a large amount that would hurt us, but I am willing to pay what I owe, and she wouldn't even take it!!! Makes sense, turn down money that is being offered, real sound business decision. All I can say is that if you decide to move here after reading this, you are putting your life in your own hands!!! The Company that owns this property hires the rudest people to run their office, and they expect you to want to stay and feel welcome.

Hi, first I want to say I am sorry that you and your fiance have to go through this. I will pray that your situation gets better. Secondly, I believe everything you have said because I live in the Bevan apartments which is a stones throw away from Prospect Park, and I see police and hoodlums around that area all the time. I am even afraid to go into the 7 Eleven on Radford, because of all the people hanging around outside, mostly young people who are yelling and clearly up to no good. Also, when I tell people I moved into an apartment in Whitehall, they get a worried/apprehensive look on their face and say "you're not in Prospect Park, are you?". You are right, it is a beautiful neighborhood, it's a shame bad people have to ruin it. I do have a question for you, when you say bugs, do you mean roaches? I see dead bugs all over the basement floor at my apt. complex, i'm not sure if they are roaches or not. If it is roaches call the health department and report it. I just wonder if our area is a bug heaven for some reason. Also, is there someone you can report to about your fiance's disability and the apt. manager not giving you the right accommodations? That may be something you might want to look into. I wish you the best.

My husband, two kids and I lived in Prospect Park for 14 years -- yes, 14 years (half of it in a two-bedroom apartment, and half in a "townhouse"). We got out in 2001, thankfully, after our basement flooded for the fifth time, and after our furnace which was shooting flames was red-tagged a third time by Equitable Gas, but Prudential STILL wouldn't replace it. I remember our apartment had carpet weavils everywhere in the bedroom. We left a couple of years after they started bringing in boatloads of Bosnians and Iraqis to rent apts. for FREE. My husband and I had occasion to drive through there the other day, and we couldn't believe how nasty it is now -- foliage overgrown, metal railings rusted, garbage everywhere, gangs hanging out. Recently, my daughter expressed interest in moving there, but because of what it has become since 2001, there's no way I'd allow here to move there -- even if it IS cheaper than elsewhere.

Prospect Park no longer is owned by Prudential Reality. I think it is all of what you make it. I am guessing you never asked to be moved from that basement apartment. I also think that alot of you complainers should look to your own children that are the ones who make a mess in the park. Have you ever tried to even run the sweeper on your hall of your floor to make it look presentable? If it was that bad why did you resign your lease? I lived there for a very long time and I thought it was a great little community except for the people that are never happy......
