I lived here for two years in college with two roommates. I really enjoyed living here, but will list some of the cons first.
Two of the bedrooms were extremely small and the closets were very small. The living room/dining area was big. AC unit only in living room and it was HOT in the summer. Heat was included, which is a good deal in Pittsburgh, but we could not control it. On the third floor it was very HOT in the winter. Others in the building complained about it being too cold though.
Moving was a huge pain because we had to drag everything up three flights of stairs (hard to get a couch around the corners), also we lived in the back corner of the complex, so we had to park the truck on the street and drag our stuff 300 yards, plus up little flights of stairs on the sidewalk.
The (on-site) management was fantastic, the apartment was spotless when we moved in, carpets cleaned, walls painted. They would sign for packages for us and any time we had a problem, they fixed it within a day, and without bothering us. Once we had a leak in the tub, and they came right away, even though it was a weekend. They were really nice, and kept the grounds up (planted flowers, mowed grass, washed our windows every couple of months). We took care to clean before we moved out and got our full security deposit back.
We never heard our neighbors, and from one end of the apartment you couldn?t really hear anyone in other parts of the apartment. There were residents there who had lived there 20 years , but the general population was shifting to college students. Some of the buildings faced the main road and would probably be noisy (lots of ambulances go by), but ours faced a wooded area and another house in the back and it was very quiet.
The bus stops right there, and it was about 5 blocks to the grocery store. They didn?t have any rec facilities on site, but there?s a city park next door with public tennis courts, basketball courts, playground, etc. If you don?t mind walking, it was about a 15 minute walk up a big hill to the Squirrel Hill shopping district.
We had a secure storage locker in the basement, about 6X10.
There are garages below the buildings, but you have to be on a waiting list to get one, and they were about $100 a month. I didn?t have a car, but street parking wasn?t all that plentiful.
A very decent, affordable complex probably best suited for college students looking for a quiet place.

I'm glad to see the old Townhouse Apartments is still serving well. My beloved father (RIP) was custodian there back in the 70's. In regards to the heating issue, the apartments used to be heated with the old-style water radiators. If this is still the case, there is a knob at the base of the radiator that you can turn to somewheat control the heat. Just a thought... :)
