Heather Cannot Be Better: True: property needs more investment
From: johnfrancisadlesicDate posted: 9/18/2008
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
I just read the most recent review, which was quite negative. I understand many of those concerns. However, please know that the manager here, Heather (at least to my knowledge-and I have lived in many apartments over the last 10 years as a federal attorney on assignment), is as friendly and accessible as any one person can possibly be. I recently had a profoundly serious disconnect with the postal carrier; thanks to Heather, I think the matter will be resolved. She took the time and, perhaps even more remarkable, was able to remember to discuss the problem with the carrier.
My remarks might seem hyperbolic; however,I do understand what one of the other writers is saying, especially in regards to lack of more personell to oversee the property. This is why Heather's warm concern and consistent attentiveness are all the more praiseworthy.
I believe that this building ("C") was once state of the art. There are huge balconies with tile flooring, a huge fitness center, very big party room, and the elevators do work.
What I have heard the most, just in passing, is that the building needs some "updating". Despite the large area for the fitness center (which, at one time, seems to have had a pool inside), the equipment seems to date to the 1970s. I believe that there has been a new treadmill placed there; howevever, it is not enough, especially if you expect more than one person to use the fitness room. I bought my own recumbant bike for my apartment. I would think the owners could triple that.
There should at least be an option to have a washer/dryer in your unit. I have 2 baths. Everywhere else I have stayed in the last 10 years has at least given you the option. I was told that was impossible here. I still do not understand why not (unless it has to do with unwillingness to provide any expense or innovation).
I do love my balcony and the apartment has been very quiet.
I guess I should say I can only speak for the "C" building: I would have to say that, for the rent paid here for a 2 bedroom with the space I have along with the balcony, it is excellent.
If you want the type of amenities that go along with a $1200.00 2 bedroom, then go there. Indeed, before I moved here, I matched a 1 bedroom elsewhere that had the amenities I really wanted; however, their 1 bedroom was more than the 2 bedroom here. I do not intend to imply that my unit is shabby. No: there is a very impressive and rich looking tile cut-away in the living room and tile throughout. The foundations here are very high quality (I have had visitors who are in constuction remark on it).
I do believe that the staff, especially maintenance, is overworked. Please know that they do all possible. I will agree that more staff is needed as well as updates (even just front door locks).
I would move here again and I have no desire to leave now. My biggest regret now is that I do not have an opportunity for a washer/dryer in the unit. As noted, this still puzzles me and could well be the reason I would go elsewhere. Once you have had the ability to toss your cloths in your washer and clean when ready, it sure is hard to have to go and find available unit and then wait (before, I could turn on the washer and leave: I would pay extra for that).
When I first moved in here, the manager was very rude and seemd to have no interest in doing any more than the absolute minimum. I would not have renewed my lease had Heather not arrived.
For the money, and, especially if you like tile and large, covered balconies, quietness, large rooms, and elevators that do work, unit "C" (again, I live here so I can only speak about "C"), is an excellent value. I have stayed in more modern apartments, with razor thin walls; that is not the case here. I have been here nearly 2 years and, remarkably, have not had any need to complain of noise.
I will rate more specifically below: certainly, "C" is most definitely a complex that should be on anyone's list who is looking in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh.
My "Overall" below, of average, is primarily due to lack of washer/dryer in units. As I recall now, it was not only the fact that I could wash and go but also I was able to keep my cloths, and overall apartment, much better organized. In that regard, I cannot say superior overall to other units. If the w/d option was here, then I would say superior.
