I Miss This Place

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2007
I lived here for four years that is my entire undergraduate life at Carnegie Mellon. Yes, freshman to senior year.
The staff are extremely friendly and polite especially the ladies in the management office. The entire apartment is well maintained and still looks new although it maybe as old as 10 years. The ground floor is rented by a credit union, a deli, a hair/nail saloon and many, many small medical research labs. All these only at the ground. There's an adjacent parking lot but it's pretty expensive at $90/month when I last checked 2 years ago.
There's a dishwasher and a refrigerator in the kitchen but they are pretty old and I think it's high time for the management to replace them with news ones (maybe sleek, metallic GE ones). The kitchen cabinets are old and worn out too. The floors are carpeted which makes cleaning difficult. Hardwood would be preferred. The toilet floors are not concrete and any water spills on the floor will leak down to the bathroom a floor below. Laundry room on every floor although the dryers tak
Perhaps the biggest plus in staying here is the location. It is situated along 5th avenue, a major road in the Oakland area. Noise from sirens maybe a problem if you get a unit facing 5th. As a Catholic, there's no excuse for skipping mass since the St. Paul's Cathedral, the seat of the Pittsburgh Diocese is right next door. It is a splendid, well-maintained Gothic Cathedral with a angelic noon mass choir. There are two banks nearby, PNC and Citizens. The world-famous Software Engineering Institute is across the street too (that's where CERT is located).
A good portion of the apartment is rented out to CMU as university housing. Although it may be far to the campus (15 mins walk is far by CMU standard), we claim that it is the best university housing. Craig Street is a block away. It used to be called the "Silicon Alley" during the dot com era but now plenty of reasonably-priced restaurants lined up the street. There's a Sunoco gas station a block away that serves us as a mart for late-night hunger pangs. There is an Indian grocery store on Craig and a Korean mart 2 blocks away.
For Pitt students, it is close to campus especially to the Cathedral of Learning and the Cathedral Lawn.
