Apartment building is in bad shape. Disgusting fixtures (old, non-working, rusty, cracked). Terrible insulation (two sets of curtains doesn?t keep the cold out). Had to bleed radiators ourselves to get them working. Old carpeting upon move-in (covered with stains, so we bought throw rugs to cover most of them). Apartment wasn?t painted or cleaned before moving in. Elevator often breaks (if you move here after this warning, when the elevator gets stuck on the 5th floor and you have to carry your groceries to the 6th floor, don't say you weren't warned). Gross sediment drips in parking garage (which corroded paint on my car). Roaches like you wouldn?t believe (however they did exterminate during the last year of my stay here). Closet doors fall off constantly. I've decided to just set them to the side for now. Kitchen and bathroom flooring has holes. Paint and the ceiling in the bedroom is bubbling and falling down (looks like water damage). Access panel to bathroom pipes exposed. Terrible wiring (almost all outlets are on one of four circuits, which leads to overloads often). Also, outlets are quite old, so I had to buy these little gray adapters to put on them to plug modern 3-pronged cords in. Water is hard and rusty (sometimes brown), and often cuts off during daytime hours without warning, so be prepared. Previous nail holes, nails, and thumbtacks in walls upon move-in. Although noise from immediate neighbors is low (due to concrete walls made before I was born), next door are two frat houses, trucks, trains, police sirens, etc. No window treatment hardware upon moving in. I measured the windows, bought my own curtain rods and installed them myself. Old and ripped shades were here upon move-in, but they were replaced. All in all, the grossest, most ghettofied place I have ever had to live. My take, they figure mostly college students live in this area, therefore they don?t have to provide safe, clean, and proper living areas. The on-site maintenance man is very nice, and he did install an air conditioning unit I bought. One bad point about him, he knowingly showed my better half a nice apartment, and then gave us a very disgusting one instead. I'm sure he's instructed to do this by Meyer's Management, because he seems like a good-hearted fellow. It's too bad the people who own our building take no pride in what is theirs.
