maybe we should start an anti-deaktor development web site. I had a very similar experience in florida with a condo conversion I bought recently. took forever to get a check on the condo that they owed me 5 days rent on because they had to kick out the poor sap who was never given notice that the unit was sold and I couldn't take possession. I heard the same song -- owner is in town this week, the check will go out -- for weeks. Now, I'm seeking legal counsel because they are keeping a paltry amound of money that they agreed to give me a close because of a clerical error on the part of THEIR title company.

I too am having trouble getting my deposit back. Deaktor bought the Biscayne Beach Club apartments in Kendall. I've called numerous times to the office in Pittsburg (David) and he never returned my calls. It's been over two months now and I'm ready for my attorney to call them.

I moved out of residences at the falls 3 months ago and Deaktor continues to give me the run around. Each time I call it's a different answer. They are lucky that they are so far away that I can not personally go to the office myself. I am about to seek legal counsel as well.

These reviews ar quite silly, frankly. The people at the office are quite nice. The apartments are roomy, when I moved in it was very, VERY clean. I guess it's just easier to complain than to give compliments. As for security deposits? Don't expect it back. I never got it back from any other landlord either--that's just life.

I am currently living in a Deaktor Development owned apt. I have contacted them numerous times about certain issues in my apt that needed fixed/repaired to NO AVAIL. They don't do ANYTHING for you and not one person is satisfied with the apt building, the office people are NOWHERE near being nice, the maintenance sucks, and they come and go as they please in & out of your apt. I would NEVER in a million years rent from them again. Actually, you couldn't even PAY ME to rent from them again. I'm glad the Health Dept is involved now and I have my money in an escrow account. Looks like the common denominator here is that Deaktor is nothing worth your time and a HUGE waste of your money.

There is black mold growing on the walls in the basement. The health dept. is involved and still no resolution. DEAKTOR SUCKS!!! They are so disorganized with their records that they have me confused with a different tenant their bookkeeping is innaccurate. IDIOTS!!!! DO NOT RENT from DEAKTOR!! The lease states that they provide laundry facilities, WHERE ARE THEY???? I am in contact with an attorney to see if DEAKTOR can be held responsible for my moving expenses. I am forced to move to insure my physical and mental well-being.

I rent from Deaktor Development in Shadyside (Pittsburgh). Although the unit is very nice, the management company including the property owner are TERRIBLE. Simple maintenance requests are consistently met with an adversarial and accusatory response rather than accountability for regular maintenance. The owner operates out of spite in that the more requests you make for service, the less responsive they become. Furthermore, Deaktor owns an abandoned building in the neighborhood, which they refuse to renovate. The end result is the neighborhood's only rundown building.

I am in the process of possibly renting from Deaktor in a unit in Shadyside, Pittsburgh,...are they really that bad? They told me that the tenant moving out of our future apt. lived there for 6 years! I figured if someone has been living there for that long, it must be good.... Any feedback??

If it is not too late, DO NOT rent with Deaktor Development. It will only cause you heartache. The management is awful, they have had 5 maintence peoople in the past year (they only have 1 person for the whole of Shadyside, and the owner of Deaktor is such a ----- they keep quitting), and they make no effort to maintain their buildings. Their apartments may be nice inside, but the aggravation caused by living in a Deaktor apartment certainly does NOT make up for it!!!
