First of all, I've been a renter for over 10 years and lived at over 6 different complexes in the Delaware Valley area so I kind of know what to look for when it comes to searching for an apartment. I can even say that I have the ability to "feel" the leasing agents out over the phone when initially calling to get some preliminary info about the complex. And that's what I did about a month ago when I called Sussex Square on a beautiful Monday morning. An older (sounded like) woman answered and after a couple of minutes of conversation I got the impression that she was rushing me off the phone. She also kept cutting me off when I spoke and said that she had to go because someone just came in to the office. She did not even gave me a chance to set up an appointment to see the property, she said to just show up on a Saturday. So I did. A heavy set woman was there and she seemed really busy with someone else and was on the phone for a while so I decided to come back the following day. I did. The door was closed/locked and there was no sign saying that they were open, even though the hours said that they should be. I waited for 20 minutes and left. Came back a week later on a Wed morning and spoke with another woman (older) who's name I forget but she had some sort of an eye disorder where they looked like they were going to pop out of her skull. She was very disrespectful and the way she treated me indicated that she was a RACIST. I am a professional ------- American, very clean cut BUT she kept bringing up the issue of me not being able to afford the rent (I said I made about 35,000 and she said that I did not qualify for a 2 bedroom apt). I said to her that I would have someone else on the lease in order to qualify and then she said that they did not have any 2 bedroom apts available anyway. They did 10 minutes prior to that! I never went back to that complex again. I cannot believe that it is year 2007 and that office felt like 1930s to me.
