The complex is now owned by the Galman Group, who is trying to force an overly restrictive renewal lease on current tenants. They want a year lease, and they want 90 days written notice by certified letter before vacating at the end of the lease. If you don't notify in time - automatic renewal of another year lease. They are essentially trying to lock their residents in permanently, and giving no flexiblity for moving out/relocating. Their lease also has ludicrous restrictions like not being able to perform car maintenance on site, not being allowed to install a television without written permission, etc.

The heat/hot water payment system used by the complex is a rip off. They take the entire gas bill of the building and divide it up amongst the tenants proportionately, depending on how much heat/hot water they used. Sounds fair, but not when you are also paying for the gas used by the clothes dryers, which you pay $1.50 to use anyways. It is also not fair when you pay for "indirect heat" used to heat the building's common areas, and when you are paying extra for gas used by other tenants who were given "free heat / hot water" deals when they moved in. My heat/hot water bills for the last few months have averaged around $150, and we've been keeping the thermostat at 72!

In addition, the clothes dryers do not dry a load of clothes properly, so it usually takes two cycles to do a load. This adds up quickly when it costs $1.25 to wash and $1.50 to dry. I've called for maintenance many times because 1 of the 2 dryers has a broken hose, but noone has come to fix it.

One positive thing, though, is that they were pretty good about winter maintenance and plowing the parking lots.

As a result of all of the negatives, though, I am moving out.
