Could have done better

I rented this apt. sight unseen when I lived overseas last year. I could have done better!
Since I don't like to be completely negative, and also to be fair, I have to say that my apt. was in excellent condition upon move-in. The appliances were all modern, and the floors and rugs were in excellent shape. There is also a cute balcony that I like to sit out on in the nice weather, and perfectly-functioning sliding doors that lead onto said balcony. There is a laundry room in every building as well.
Also, the staff was cooperative in facilitating the lease and other paperwork as I prepared to move back to the states.
The bad: I was robbed a few months after move-in. I still suspect the handyman at the time was involved. I understand he's no longer in ARO's employ, and I can't help but wonder if he was caught red-handed in someone else's apt.
Because of this, I wouldn't recommend allowing maintenance into your apt. when you're not home, even if there is now a different maintenance guy. ARO obviously doesn't screen their hires thoroughly.
There is no basement storage for things like luggage, c-mas decorations, pet carriers, etc. All that stuff is in my bedroom closets, and now I have to buy an armoire for my clothes.
Neighbors are, to be euphemistic, questionable. Because of this, I asked ARO if the building was a Section 8, and surprise surprise -- it's not!!!
There is often trash and debris in the hallways and foyers, which shouldn't surprise me given the quality of tenants. The elevator is also on the fritz quite often.
Unfortunately, I'm stuck here till I finish school in a few years. After that, I'm outta here like last Christmas.
A year later, and I'm still stuck at Drexel Woods. I can't graduate soon enough! There have been vacancies in the apts. adjacent to mine, and just as I feared, the vacancies have been filled with people who aren't the best; I know this because I can hear their fights through the walls! They will rent to ANYONE here, and I feel more unsafe than I already do.
Oh yes, all the walls are paper thin: I hear all my noisy neighbors 24/7. Studying can be a real joke sometimes.
UPDATE 4/2008: The situation here has really gone downhill, and I'm moving out in two months. Elephants must have moved in above me because I hear their stomping for at least half of every day -- not to mention their arguments and their baby constantly crying.
The tenants get more and more ghetto every day. There are also a lot of DP's in this complex who'll think nothing of hanging a week's worth of laundry on their balconies and contributing yet another eyesore to this dump or of moving into a one-bedroom apartment as a family of six.
A crack addict was evicted from my building a month ago, and I can only imagine what kind of loser will move into her now-vacant apartment. I hope I'm not here to find out.

Let me guess, are you in C building? I was on the second floor for 2 years - pathetic! I'm glad to be gone. Good luck. I would find a reason to leave and break the lease if I were you.

No, I'm in the B building actually. The quality of tenants here sucks. I can't wait to get out. Good for you for leaving!
