Disregard the negative comments regarding the staff. The Apartment Store cleaned house in the fall of 2008 and the new office staff is top notch! I had limited experience with the previous staff and will agree that they were terrible. The new staff is friendly, courteous, and willing to do whatever they can to make your rental experience the best it can be. Any of the negative things that go on seem to be the result of policies from the corporate office in State College that were designed for their apartments at Penn State and don't always fit with the different environment of Slippery Rock.
The apartments themselves (located on Kiester Rd. between the Slippery Rock High School and Pine Glen) are convenient walking distance to campus. They are furnished with basic dorm-type furniture, come with basic cable and free high-speed internet connections in each room, washer, dryer, dishwasher and microwave. Renters also get free access to the clubhouse located at the 'New South Rock' on Harmony Rd. about two blocks away.
My maintenance requests have always been resolved promptly and correctly by friendly and competent maintenance staff. The complex is can get to be a bit noisy at times (mostly on the weekends). The walls do seem to be thin and you can sometimes hear road noise or even conversations in the living room from the bedrooms and vice versa but I never found it bothersome. As mentioned above, there are some policies that have been implemented that were obviously designed for larger complexes in densely populated areas. A prime example is that this year the corporate management changed their policy on parking permits. Now each resident must purchase 3 different permits if they want to park in the lot for the year. The fall and spring semester passes each cost $50 and the summer pass is slightly less. Thankfully, the apartments are directly across the street from an open parking lot on the university property where any student can purchase a year-long commuter pass for $25.
As with any apartment complex there are positives and negatives. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives here and I will absolutely be renewing my lease for the upcoming year!
