The staff is usually unhelpful and unwilling to go above what they're "supposed" to do; don't expect any favors. Our particular apartment (Fairmount Hills) has an air conditioning system that cools water and pumps it throughout the building. When (not "if") the electricity so much as flickers (this is no exaggeration), the fuse resets on the system and a maintenance worker must be sent out to reset it. If this happens after office hours, they won't send anyone out because it is not considered an "emergency." Pray this doesn't happen on a Friday or you'll be out of A/C for the entire weekend.
Maintenance workers will often arrive at your apartment unannounced requesting access to check various items; fire alarms, filters, etc. When extensive work is required, they will notify you ahead of time, but often no more than two days. We needed work on our carpet and were given notice less than two days that we would need to move all our furniture and when the worker arrived, they told us we didn't need to move anything.
The building is also a frequent victim of vandalism, specifically graffiti and there is open access to the building; no keys required. This results in many, many solicitation fliers being tossed under your door.
