Bad news - flush your money instead

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005

I lived in one of their small unnamed complexes for two years. This is the property at 1000 S. Allen St. The only reason I stayed the second year is because I hate moving. I won't go into the ridiculous size and shape of the property (I did agree to rent the stupid place) which didn't have enough kitchen counter space to make a bowl of cereal and none of the doors could open all the way....I'll just get to the stuff one can't predict. The pilot light on the hot water heater (which was a model designed for a single unit split between 7) went out EVERY TIME THERE WAS A CHANGE IN WEATHER. Quite a hassle in central pa. Usually took at least a day to get fixed. You could not shower within an hour of any of your neighbors showering, not just because of lack of hot water but complete lack of pressure. My toilet didn't work properly for 6 months, despite weekly complaints - they claimed to have fixed it when I reported them to the county code office and fabricated work orders. Walls are paper thin - your neighbors might as well be roommates. I was randomly charged $50 for having an animal in my apartment, despite the fact that there was no such animal in my apartment EVER. After final move out (which I did a month early and still paid final month's rent - only to find they rented it the week I moved out) they took over two months to get my security deposit to me (although I was promised I would have it in two weeks since I was beating the move out rush). Of $450 I received $150 back. Why' I was charged $75 for changing a lightbulb (despite an itemized list of what charges would be - apparently it takes 3 hours to change a light bulb), and the remainder was charged because I removed curtains that I made, installed, and removed without leaving a trace. The agents remembered the curtains being there when they showed the apartment (which they never ever called to warn you they would do - often at ridiculously early hours - I was interrupted by complete strangers during every imaginable private thing one does in one's own apartment) and I was charged for covering a large window while I lived there and not leaving my curtains for the next tenant (which I undoubtedly would have also been charged for). You pay extra for parking a lot owned by the realty, far away from campus. There are no assigned spaces or permits thus no way to ensure you actually have a spot you pay for (the tow companies won't tow if you don't have permits or assigned spots). The small sidewalk leading up to the doorstep had huge spots missing, but was always covered in leaves. Several of my visitors sprained ankles by stepping on said broken spots. A huge beehive stayed under the roof all summer despite several requests to get rid of it. To get from the parking lot to the broken sidewalk you had to cross what was a small river half the year and could have been a tobogan slope the rest. The light shining on this dangerous spot was out all but 3 weeks I lived there. I could go on and on. After two years with a good realty (Nevins Rules!), I almost forgot how bad they were and called to check on a house they were renting. Despite the fact that I'm almost 30, as is my fiance, since I am enrolled in classes they will only allow me to live in undergrad properties. I don't know if the people who work there are evil or stupid or a combination of the two
