Ambassador Building and parking at Beaver Terrace

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
I lived on the fourth floor of Ambassador Building for two years, and it was ok. The location is good because it is close to campus. Associated Realty gave us nice furniture and electricity bills were consistent. The elevator is small and slow, and often it smells bad because someone has urinated in it. The hallways and stairways have no ventilation, and they also smell bad from trash and cigarette smoke. I also occasionally find broken glass in the lobby or the stairs. The dumpster is not right next to the building, so it is inconvenient to throw out the trash. The dumpster that we are supposed to use is on the other side of Centre Court, on Sowers St. and Calder Way. The fire alarm in the building has falsely gone off over four times a year, sometimes late a night, which is an annoyance. Maintenance is slow. We had repairs done on our kitchen floor, bathroom vent, and closet door but it usually took two months and about six phone calls before they came. Office people have been nice and helpful when I talked to them. The noise level depends on your neighbors, and it is downtown so there's a some noise from outside. I usually take my laundry on campus, so I don't usually use the facilities here. The facilities are pretty old, and it's $1.50 for washer and $1.50 for the dryer. Usually my roommates have to hang up their clothes to dry even after they've been in the dryer. No microwave is provided, and there is no ventilation hood over the stovetop range. Access into the building is easy because usually the back door is open, and there's a code to get into the front door. Overall, the apartments are satisfactory, but the halls and elevator are an annoyance.
I also parked at Beaver Terrace in 2006-2007 on the west side of the building. It was expensive, but I needed my car often so it was worth it. You pay the total rent for the year all at once. I often found cigarette butts and food (eggs, noodles, strawberry stems) thrown around my car from the balconies. I also found a computer chair once too. Maintenance did a good job of cleaning up the stuff promptly and my car was never damaged. Had issues once or twice with people parking in my space but usually the person was just moving stuff quickly or dropping stuff off at the Associated Office.
