Good Experience

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I have lived in Briarwood for 1 years. My experience has been very pleasant. I feel that some of the bad comments are from tenants who expect five star accommodations. You must understand that this complex is not the newest place in town and there will be problems, but I feel the staff and maintenance has handled these issues professionally.
Pros:
- Pets are welcome (especially large breed dogs)
- The one bedroom apartments are very spacious
- Maintenance responds quickly and if you continue to have a problem they will come until the problem is fixed (when I first moved in, my hot water tank was broken and after several attempts to fix it they graciously gave me a new one)
- The staff is very friendly. I usually received guest passes (and if I didn t it was because it was a busy weekend and understandably they only have a certain amount to hand out). The staff has been very helpful with rent and lease issues (they follow the book, which may seem unfair but it is not their fault)
- It is a very safe neighborhood.
- I always can find a parking space (although if I come home late from work I do not always get a spot in front of my building, but you can t really do anything about that)
- I was fortunate to have quiet neighbors beside me and above me (yes I can sometimes hear them walking around or the dishwasher running but it is much quieter than living downtown)
- The heat and AC are old but still work well enough to meet my standards (both did break down at one point or another but they were fixed immediately and I have not had a problem since all you have to do is ask maintenance to help)
Cons
- Yes, the appliances are a little outdated. Mine worked fine but it would be nice to have a new oven and closet doors. For those of you that were complaining though. Why would they replace appliances if they aren t broke'
- The bathroom tiles (at least in my apartment) are in desperate need of replacing but it was nothing that you wouldn t find anywhere else in an old apartment
- I have a dog and I ALWAYS pick up after her outside. It really annoys me that so many people don t. It would be helpful if there were trash cans but it is more the fault of irresponsible owners.
- Spiders were definitely an issue for me. But I would gladly take spiders over mice (which I thankfully never had)
- When it was time to renew my lease the rent did go up a significant amount but this happens pretty much everywhere you live. I m just glad I won t be around to renew it again or else I might not be able to afford it by myself
- Also, there are not too many people here over the summer but I thought the pool was hardly ever open.
No matter where you live there are always bad things that one wishes were different. I am sad to be leaving because it was a decent place to live compared to where I lived previously downtown. It was a quiet environment and a place that let me have a dog, which is what I wanted.
