pretty good value for money

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008

I lived here with my husband for nearly 4 years while he did his degree at nearby Penn State.
We lived on the second floor and had a nice balcony, although the balconies are old and its fine to put plants and stuff on them, I wouldn't trust them to hold the weight of a lot of people!
The management was very nice, although it is typical apartment management in that, if anything goes wrong their attitude is instantly one of "thats not our responsibility" for example while I lived there, I had 2 refridgerators stop working and both times I lost about $50-100 of frozen food.
Maintenance crew are a bunch of sweet guys who've worked there forever and a bunch of college kids that they take on during the summer. Although I gotta say, everytime they came into our apartment to fix or improve something, something else usually ended up not working as well as a result. For example, they came in to replace the bathroom flooring and had to remove the toilet to do it. The new floor was nice but the toilet never flushed properly from then on. They came in to replace the wiring in the hallway and kitchen and from then on we could never run more than one appliance at the same time in the kitchen or we'd blow a fuse.
Having said all that, the maintenance is quick to reply to you if something is wrong, the management are very nice and friendly and open to talking to you pretty much anytime you want.
There is a great grocery store within walking distance and bus stop right outside the building. You have to collect your mail from a mail slot and if you get a parcel, its put in a locker for you so I always felt that my mail was safe.
My apartment itself was really nice and big, there is a lot of storage space and i felt we were spoiled by the large size of the rooms (except the tiny bathroom)although I gotta say the kitchen is way too small and poorly designed.
I always felt safe here and never felt that we were being overcharged.
In response to what one person wrote about the 'crazy people' that live here. Its true, the apartment complex does house people who have been mentally ill and are now being released into the community. Although this can be unnerving at first, I would ask you to keep an open mind. None of them are dangerous or loud or frightening. All that we interacted with were polite, warm and usually very quiet and kept to themselves.
