My son lived here for 18 months, moving out in December due to graduation. He and his roommate had to pay $500 to get out of the lease but were still responsible for paying rent until a new tenant moved in in mid Jan. I personally cleaned this apartment from top to bottom so they would get their money back. We are currently in 'negotiation' with the management as they claim the apartment was not clean and are not only refusing to return the security deposit, but are keeping the rent that my son's roommate had prepaid for January. They also billed the kids for $1100 to refinish the hardwood floors claiming damage to the floors. Other than a few scratches that were present when they moved in (and so noted on the form they completed) the floors were not damaged and what you would expect for hardwood floors in a 50 year old building. I asked for a receipt from the floor refinishing but got a letter from the property manager stating that they have to wait until the new tenants move out to refinish the floors. They do allow pets in this complex--and you can tell by the smell in the hallways. Although the kids did not have dogs, their living room always smelled like a wet dog because the people across the hall had three dogs... Dealing with this management has not been a pleasant experience. My son also had 2 bikes chained to the bike racks outside. They apparently decided there were too many 'abandoned' bikes around, so they posted a notice in early December telling tenants that the bikes were all going to be removed by December 19. We don't live far from campus and my son had come home in early December to help me as I was receiving chemotherapy at the time. When he went back to Lion's Gate his bikes were gone. He asked one of the maintenance men what they did with them and was told they sold any that were worth anything and junked the others...so, the essentially stole 2 bikes as well.
