So far a very good experience.

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007

I moved in about a year ago last summer. Prior to that, I had actually lived here during the summer of 2002-2003 with an ex-boyfriend. I had remembered fond experiences with the unit we were in as well as the office staff and so, decided to give it another shot (without the ex-boyfriend of course!).

Between then and last August, there was of course the major management change (Copper Beech took over) so while (unfortunately) some of the fun activities like movie nights, holiday balcony-decorating contests, video rentals, etc. were dropped, the quality of the apartments themselves didn't suffer much. The community activities were a sad loss but at the very least, I just considered them an added bonus.

Just like any apartment there are its ups and downs. When I originally moved in (2002), free internet was included as dial-up. By the time I moved back in last summer everything was upgraded to cable/high speed (as expected with the times). Unfortunately in many ways this may have not been the best choice- the dial-up was actually much faster and reliable than the high speed! Recently they have made some server changes so things have become a little better but to my disappointment, streaming video and file sharing is near impossible. If you're a heavy internet user than I definitely suggest looking into adding your own Comcast connection. However if you plan on just checking email, etc then it's actually more than sufficient.

The unit itself is quite nice. While Parkway isn't a luxury condo in the Hills, their units provide exactly what I require to be comfortable and safe. The buildings are from the 60s or so but have been well maintained and serviced. I get lots of sun and a lovely view to boot. The funky 60s pattern on the kitchen floor tiles are actually quite neat in a retromatic way. When I first moved in everything was pretty clean and didn't require much of my own elbow grease. Anything that needed to be fixed, was fixed within a reasonable time of my requests. I live in an unfurnished one bedroom on the sixth floor: noise-wise, I hardly hear my neighbors inside my unit and the people upstairs are relatively quiet. Of course this being a student town, finding a quiet place during football weekends is near impossible, but honestly, I have heard much worse living in other places. Despite the horrific humidity of the wet season, I haven't seen a single spider the entire summer. No infestations here.

The parking provided is of course, paid and guests do require a permit. But as long as you follow the sensible rules, it's not a problem. (I've had plenty of guests and family members over and have never had a problem being towed I'd rather have random cars towed than find my spot filled!) I do suggest their covered parking spots as opposed to parking in alley for obvious safety reasons (balconies right over the parking).

The office staff are friendly and attentive. I've never had a single problem dealing with either of the ladies and my complaints were always handled in a reasonable and professional manner. There were many times when they went out of their way to help me out with various things.

Overall, I'm really enjoying my time at Parkway. Sure there will always be times when idiots are about (misc loud and obnoxious students) but that's the downfall of living in State College (a College town, duh) and I've found that no matter where I move it's unavoidable. But at least my time here has been relatively quiet, safe and less stressful than dealing with ill-trained management or infested units. If you're looking for a reasonably inexpensive and nice apartment, check them out.
