Better than being homeless

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2003
I currently live in Sun Apartments at 117 E. McCormick Ave. Without a doubt, this is the nicest of Sun's apartments, being an apartment building rather than a badly converted house.
I have to agree with the other posters about the maintenance. Apparently they just hired a new maintenance crew. In my last encounter with the new crew, they complained about the old crew and the management. I get the distinct impression that they were well aware they were working for slumlords.
I've complained for the past two years that my air conditioner's cover is broken, and that the filter it came with had to be thrown out because it was so filthy. Minor stuff, but never fixed. I finally gave up and used duct tape and a furnace filter to fix it. When Sun ran an "inspection" a few months back, I noted that on my form.
Maintenance told me that my air conditioner was so old they couldn't get parts for it anymore. their solution' They cut the furnace filter I bought to fit better, and taped the whole thing up with duct tape.
It took five months to get my toilet fixed when I moved in. It was wonderful to have it start running when I took a shower-nothing like being scalded early in the morning.
I can't look too closely at any of the caulking in my bathroom because I get enraged at the shoddy workmanship and cracked tiles. There is apparently no shutoff valve for the water in my apartment, which makes getting plumbing repaired a problem because they have to turn off water to the whole building. Which they have no problems doing without notifying the tenants first.
They maintain a policy of not notifying you before showing your apartment. If you're rude, sleeping, or naked enough times when they visit, however, they'll take the hint.
My carpet is a bizarre neon seagreen which looks like it was picked up from a remnant outlet in an emergency. The "cleaning" it received before I moved in was laughable-you're supposed to vacuum the carpet cleaner powder out after you apply it, guys!
It's tolerable, but tiny and by no means an apartment I'm overjoyed to rent. I'm only staying here because I plan to buy a house in the next two years and don't feel like moving. The only plus is that this is a "no party" building, so I don't have to deal with annoying drunk loud students. Also, it's cheap, close to town, and I don't have to deal with roommates,
