"meh"--better before Continental
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/25/2008
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
It's truly a shame--the apartments are spacious with high ceilings and plenty of room, good location (out of the main part of town but still accessible), and decently priced (as of now, at least). However, the complex was poorly maintained for years and it shows. My apartment is fairly nice although it is still somewhat run down and definitely has an "old" feeling--my mom visited at one point and recognized the kitchen cupboard design as the same from an apartment she rented back in the 70's. The parking situation is generally ok, although there have been issues lately with the real estate management company (Continental) limiting the number of guest passes for absolutely no good reason (see earlier reviews on the subject). If you don't mind the apartments being old and completely out of date, they are a decent place to live.
My real complaint is Continental, which took over running the complex in May 2007. The previous management group was slow and inefficient in terms of maintenance, but they were easygoing, didn't overcharge you with fees, and generally didn't give you a problem. Continental is still slow in terms of its maintenance of the apartments but is a stickler for small rules and will suck the money out of tenants with surprising skill. Rent was raised last year by $50 and is rumored to be raised further this year, but absolutely NO improvements have been made to my unit since I moved in which would explain such a hike in rates. They do not follow up on repair requests (took 2 months to get my A/C fixed in mid-summer and I had to keep on them to get it done), but are surprisingly capable of reacting when they believe that you owe them something. I have not yet moved out so I do not know from first-hand experience about the issues mentioned above with the unreasonable retention of security deposits, but I do have several friends who have rented from Continental confirm that they keep the vast majority of the security deposit for no reason and are vague about their justification for this, so I'll probably have to sue them if they try that with me (and yes its worth it, if not for the money, then for the principle).
So in summation, good--if old--apartments but not very good management. I would recommend the apartments if management policies (or the company itself) ever changes.
