I was asked to put down a security deposit of $700 for leasing an apartment. When I changed my mind and informed them about my decision, they hurriedly cashed the deposit check and never refunded my money saying that it was non-refundable. This is just plain robbery and never followed in any other states. Stay away from this place!!!

But not refunding the whole $700? I have heard of other properties withholding a penalty of something like $100 or $150, which is fair enough. This is hard-earned money for us, it does not come free. But to lose $700 without any benefits is atrocious. Is this how rental companies look at making money?

Most rental companies have you fill out an application and when you sign your application you typically are given a short time frame to change your mind. Yes, if you do not read that form and you wait too long, you will lose your deposit. Please read before you sign anything especially when you are putting money down.
