Be Prepared to Lose Money

I lived at The Pointe for 1.5 years. I was a grad student and lived with two of my good friends who were in the same program. We chose The Pointe realizing it was more expensive but were willing to pay the price since it seemed much nicer than the other available options for State College apartments. Up until the final move-out of the apartment I might have said The Pointe was an ok place but not anymore. Having a personal bathroom is great! Internet is horrible and complaints do nothing since they claim you are not paying for it (but you are in your rent). Parking is ok as long as you don't want a visitor on the weekend. Staff is nice but will do nothing to help you. However, not until you leave do you see just how bad The Pointe is. I had to leave my lease early and asked to give 3 months notice to break the lease (typically generous with most landlords) and was told that I had to pay 75% of my rent for the remaining time. Reluctantly, I did this and was glad I did since I recently found out that The Pointe charged my old roommates outrageous fees for work that did not need done, or that was not our responsibility. No let me say that we were very good tenants (paid our rent early, never caused trouble) and all 3 of us spent 3 days cleaning the apt to as good a condition as we moved in (likely better) but were charged for all sorts of cleaning. We were charged for REPAINTING??? Since there was no damage, there is no reason we should be held responsible for painting the place for the next tenant that they are going to rip off. That is why we paid over 1200/month in RENT!! I really think The Pointe, and most places in State College for that matter, are very crooked and really out to rip off the college students and their parents. I just felt I needed to make mention of this.
