Decent Apartments......HORRIBLE Management Staff & Lease Requirements

STAY AWAY FROM TOFTREES!!!! I have never in my life had a worse experience with an apartment complex as I had with Toftrees. The lease requirements that are in place are unbelieveable and give the tenant no room for change. I moved into a Wildridge apartment in February of 08 (moving from about 2 hours away for a job). In early April I was mailed a letter from the management team saying that I had to decide whether or not I was planning to stay or move out when my lease was up......the end of my lease was set for mid August!!!! Not expecting much to change I agreed to extend my lease (they force you to extend for a minimum of 1 year) through August of 09. Unfortunately in January of 09 I lost my job and had to move back to my hometown. When I tried to get out of my lease I was informed that there is NO WAY to get out of my lease and that I must pay every month's rent in full through August of 09, which was 7 months away. Most apartment complexes will allow you to break your lease for a fee of about 1 months rent - not Toftrees. They do not allow anyone to break their lease and on top of that, they will not fill your apartment with new tenants. I was told that if they had a new tenant looking for an apartment they would show all of their open ones first and then show mine as a last resort if the tenant didn't want any of the open apartments. As I write this review, my apartment has been open for over 5 months now and I have yet to receive a phone call from Toftrees saying that they have a new tenant to take over my apartment. The only way to defer the costs of the unused apartment is to advertise it on your own and sublet. Fortunately I was able to do this recently - although Toftrees management will tell you that you are not allowed to sublet. Overall these apartments are not even close to being worth the hassle of management, not to mention the unbelievably high costs of rent.

You need to read your lease before you sign. Ok so you sign A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT and you want out? Honestly, if they gave people the option to just leave when ever they would be broke! They need to make a living too! And pay bills! How is it managements fault or responsibily that you lost your job? Yes, it sucks, but if they are flexible to you they need to be flexible with everyone then what is the point of a contract?? They would lose money on the deal. Cant pay employees, vendors, the morgage, etc...then hmmm...YOU'LL be upset becuase lack of service then -----. You just cant please everyone I guess.....
